+1 to what everyone else has been saying.

Its an offence to wear it, if your not on duty with the Irish Army.

I think the thing that made this thread invalid was the fact that someone offered him the Irish DPM

Red Hats would be happy to get their hands him. I take offence to civilians wearing Irish DPM.

Unless he can source where he got it legally.

    Which is unlikely...

Yes, owning it can be legel. But tradeing it. No

The only place he could of got it legally, is if hes in the Army, and if hes selling it on to someone not in the Army, is illegal.

Even if they are both in the army. It's illegal to sell. It's not his property.

actually lads you can buy irish pattern dpm, its against the law to wear/sell irish goverment property dpm ,the difference is the little irish flag on the arm

Unfortunatly it's not. The IAA sought clarification on this a long while ago. The link is here
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055230295

"Statutory provisions about the wearing of, and dealing in, Irish DPM are clear and unequivocal. They are to be found in the Defence Act 1954, sections 260/264/265 and quite simply forbid expressly:

    * wearing Irish DPM outside of Irish Army context or matters
    * dealing in Irish DPM ("dealing in" = selling/buying; not the least because Irish DPM is never the seller's to sell in the first place,
whereby both a seller and a buyer could realistically be prosecuted for dealing in stolen goods, as in 'stolen from the State')

The IAA position has been clear on this issue from the onset: do not wear Irish DPM, do not buy or sell Irish DPM, report any incidence of anyone doing any of these activities to the authorities at once.
    "

    No its not.

The Irish Uniform remains property of the minister of defense. The flag is not the defining factor, its the uniform and the pattern (which is copywritten by the state).

If you sell it you are breaking the law.

If you buy it you are receiving stolen goods.

There are exceptions (apparently) to this in that you may purchase webbing and hats which carry the pattern (or a close approximation) but the uniforms themselves are not for use by any civilian anywhere, anyplace anyhow.

Nope. Flags mean jack... The only Irish DPM kit produced is for the Irish military and they don't allow it to be sold - ergo any on sale is being/has been sold on illegally by someone in the military or someone connected to someone in the military.

The pattern is copyrighted so nobody else can produce gear in that pattern (the Protac kit has a subtly different pattern).

The only bit of Irish kit which was freely and legally available was the boonie hat, but they have since restricted them (around the time of the first deployment to Liberia iirc).

I don't see an offer of Irish DPM here, just the very thing he's looking for.

The OTT reaction is strange, do you guys police the building sites or just boards coz you'll find a lot of it on the sites in plain view, I don't see the military police swarming all over them.

Anyway OP, PM me if interested.

Some people cant be arsed looking..

    here it is

    5. Irish DPM articles

The following criteria must be strictly adhered to if one wishes to sell or trade Irish DPM articles.
    • Anything that has been issued is absolutely forbidden for sale/trade/etc.
    • You must be able to cite your source. If you can't, you don't post.
    • If you are selling on second-hand kit, you must be able to cite your source. If you are unsure as to where that came from, you don't post.
    • If you are found to be presenting articles for sale in a false manner (i.e. selling issue kit whilst claiming it's been purchased retail), you will receive an automatic permanent ban. You may or may not have your details forwarded on to the relevant authorities also.
    • Items that are definitvely banned include, but are not limited to; BDUs (i.e. shirts/trousers), Smocks, Parkas, Rain-gear, Sleeping systems (Basha/Bivvy bag/Sleeping bag) or parts thereof.

Also Post number 2 is leading to off thread dealing. Be careful lads.

Anything done outside of airsoft is none of our affair. What is done inside it is. We are responsible, every one of us in policing all of the legal requirements of the sport. This is one of them.

It's very simple lads and ladies. Irish DPM = No, Unless you are a member of the defence forces and using said DPM in accordance with regulations.

To make it even easier to understand, If I find anyone in possession of Irish DPM on an airsoft site/ their car/ or anywhere else and they are not a member of the defence forces, you will be arrested, regardless of what you or I happened to be doing at that time. You will be detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice act, your home will be searched under section 48 of the Theft and Fraud offences act for further evidence, you will be interviewed and you will be charged with possession of stolen property.

Just leave the Irish DPM alone.

As long as a breach of the law is being treated as an over reaction it needs to be restated.

As long as a breach of the law is being treated as an over reaction it needs to be restated.

10 or 11 posts got the message across I think, best to let the thread die rather than add:

    "It's illegal"

    "Yeah +1 illegal"

    "Illegal..dont do it"

"I'm Harry Callahan and I'll search your home under Section 48"

to the thread when the first post nailed the issue down.

Is there not another forum this discussion can take place in? The OP asked for Irish DPM or similar and I gave him a price for a british dpm jacket, all legal and whatnot.

You're making it difficult for a transaction to be made here. Take your rantings about irish dpm to a different airsoft forum!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,688 ✭✭✭Deadpool

stephenshields2 never never never say (the one who cant be named) his name or he will come back and ban you for tread spoiling.
Ok those of you who are members of law inforcement it is understood and this guy didnt know now he does. The guy who offered the irish dpm needs to be asked by THE MODS where he got this if he has it cause all he said was "i can sort you out"
AND my offer stands i know i have maybe 2/3 pants maybe 1 jacket of british DPM which i will give free to the lad if the rest of you can just drop it
