Quite often, we hear mention of the pension timebomb that's looming ahead of us. This being caused by the fact that at the moment there are six workers to pay for every pensioner, and by mid-century there will be less two workers for every pensioner (link). Taking the example of the South Korean government encouraging a baby boom to prevent a pension timebomb there, should our government be doing the same???

Should the government begin promoting a baby boom?? 10 votes

We are apparently. But that wasn't encouraged. It's probably because of unemployment and lower wages causing people to resort to the cheapest form of entertainment (and looking to keep the heating bill down in the big freeze). :D

There's no point encouraging a baby-boom to pay for an ageing population, because as soon as those babies grow up, they will feck off out of the country pronto, because those asswipes up in Dublin won't have created enough jobs for them.

But we'd know that a baby boom would solve it for us......

The age of retirement should be no more than 5 years less than the average life expectancy. Women should also have to work for longer.
