I have had a recent eye test. Can I use the script for getting lenses or is it different?

    Have you worn lenses before?
No- you need to be fitted- separate test.
Yes- you will need an aftercare to see if there has been changes and adjust contact prescription.

your glasses and lenses can sometimes be different prescriptions, so you wont be sold any lenses with you eye test script.

Misticles is right about requiring a different eye test for contact lenses. They will test you with a trial pair of contact lenses. Find out the difference in soft, hard and gas permeable lenses and which ones are best for you and which you want to opt for. Soft are the most comfortable and can be comfortable immediately. Not so for the others. However, some occupations may require hard or gas permeable lenses, eg flight attendant (drying conditions on a plane).

The trial can last for 15 mins or a few days, depending on the opticians. The test will include the test lenses and the eye test. It may not cover solutions if you are trying them out for more than 1 day. Some opticians give you free trial packs of solutions.

The contact lens prescription will always be less strong if you are short-sighted because the lenses sit ON the eye, wheras glasses are on your nose, so a separate test is a must! Only an optician can dispense prescription lenses and its very important you go for an aftercare checkup to see if your eyes are adjusting to them ok and for good eye health. This is sometimes included in the cost of the contact lens test, or provided free if you buy lenses from the optician. Hope you get sorted!
