My 9yr old is going through his gloves for football every 2 months...I bought him a pair of the O'Neills ones with the latex palms and they fell apart recently and then got him a similar pair in black but they are only 2 weeks old and already showing like they are ready for the bin.

    at €20/pair its getting expensive

Are there any gloves out there that stand the test of time? I'd be willing to pay about €30/40 for a decent pair if it meant he'd get more than a year out of them

Depending on how many times a week your son plays, he shouldn't really expect to get a year out of the gloves. The best plan would be to keep one pair for training and another for games. The best pair should last at least the championship season doing that, and after that you can revert to using them for training and get another few months out of them. He also shouldn't really be using them for the summer, although some lads still prefer using them even when its dry.

O'Neills are the best, Prolite are about the same quality. I find by not drying them out too much on a radiator etc in between use they don't wear out as fast either.

Plays a game a week (most weeks) and trains twice with the club and once with the school so I suppose thats roughly 4.5 to 5hrs per week usage

I train about 4 nights a week and never get 2 months from gloves. O Neills are the best, but they don't last very long.
