    Hi all,

My younger brother got an iPhone but its costing the poor divil a fortune in credit, because of data use. He doesn't even seem to use it much in fairness to him.

Is there any way of disabling edge so apps can't go online to use data?

settings > general > network > cellular data network
click apn and just add a letter or 2, that will diasable the net completely, to get it back just delete whatever characters were added to the apn

If it suits him to turn off all GSM/3G stuff (including voice calls), and just use Wi-Fi, then turn on Airplane mode, but then turn Airport back on.

Editing the APN is good, but if you only want edge/3G off for a short time, it can get a bit tedious...

then it would only be a glorified ipod, some apps try to update every time they start and afaik ya cant disable that on all of them
