Does anyone know where to get a hex screw that would open up the magazine release on a JG 416, I think it is 1.3mm, could anyone tell me where to get one in the Dublin area, thanks.

I think its imperial system on that, you can use a torx driver aswell (cant remember which size), fits nice and tight. :)

Some of them use a 1.3mm allen key others use a Torx head, I am almost sure its T7

Masada: Is that one of them 'Secority Torx' drivers that one would use on expensive electrical **** that says 'Do not open'?
The hole in the middle says it is, as I note some screws have a 'pin' in the 'slot' to make it impossible to open with a 'common' torx driver.
So are you sayin he needs a security screwdriver or regular, not that it makes much difference as he can clearly figure it out for himself, but it got me thinking.
Though is a 'Hex Key' not one of these?

I.E. an Allan key? IIRC that is what one finds mainly on JG AEG's, thoiugh I dunno about the 416, I know damn sure it is allan/hex keys you use on other JG AEG's (the G36c for example).

Not trying to start an arguement, just looking for clarification.
BTW, I know I said like 1000 works to make a onoe line point, but the train of thought is a bit... gone.

The Torx bits with the hole in the middle is to allow you undo TAMPER PROOF screws, the ones with the pin in the centre of the head
Lots of gearboxes are held together with Torx headed screws

Stephen: Yep, I thought allan key was what he meant, the pic was for clarification. The yanks call em hex keys cos of the hexagonal profile :)

DeBurca: Thanks for clarifying the correct terminology, I always called the tamper proof pain in the ass screws security screws - a habit picked up from woodwork, where any screw designed to impede disassembly was termed a 'security screw'. Off topic, but there was this one designed so it could ONLY be driven IN, and not be removeable... Well, I found one on a steel door and spent a good ten minutes staring at it before the 'defeat' became glaringly obvious. Clever use of a pen-knife allowed me to unscrew the damn thing, but it was hardly practical. I had to use the blade as a screwdriver in an unorthodox manner and it riuned a finely honed blade. Back on topic, most gearboxes I have seen have indeed used Torx, though 'cheaper' ones were Phillips.

In the motor industry we used bolts with a head that breaks off at a certain torque rating, making it very difficult to remove them afterwards. You'd usually have to drill them out but sometimes it was handy enough to just weld a nut onto it and open it with a ratchet, :)

Or use a broken stud extractor,,,,,,

Ye just to clarify I am looking for the hex-screw/allen key that you would use to open up the mag release on a JG 416, I presume it would be the same as other M4 variants as the layout onthe receiver is exactly the same. 1mm is too small and 1.5mm is too big, I think it is 1.3mm, anyone know where you would get one, has anyone had this problem?

as i said in the first post, its not metric. its imperial.

Have just tried my JG416 and it must be a different size to your one as a 1.5mm key is loose in the head a Torx T6 fits perfectly.
if you need a 1.3mm key you can get a set in Maplin that has 0.9mm and 0.7mm also in the set very usefull at times
If as Masada says it is imperial then some imperial sets have a 50thou key in the set which is approxametely 1.27mm and may also work

Thanks lads, I've just bought a big allen key set by draper from McQuillan tools, has every allen key under the sun, now after taking out the gearbox, I realise that i need someting different to open up the gearbox itself.
Is it those torx keys that were mentioned earlier on? If they are what size keys should I get.
    Cheers.:D

Ya the JG gearboxes mainly use Torx screws
I have only seen them sold in sets not as singles, just make sure when you are getting them that it has a T9 in the set as this is the most common one for the gearbox screws
