My PC is gone painfully slow and crashes regularly. I have been searching for freeware to clean the registry files. Anyone come across or have experience of this as a tool http://www.freeregistryfix.com

    Thanks

    Hi squelly

registry cleaning is one of the last things to do.

    1. Do you have any anti virus installed.(if you have do a full system scan)
    2. Do you have any anti spyware installed.(if you have do a scan)

Don't know much about the above, but ccleaner does a fairly good job. ;)

As slowlydownwards says, use ccleaner to clear out dead/junk files and then clean the registry.

If that doesn't improve, head over to the Virus and Malware forum, read the "I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 12/02/2010) sticky and try as much of that as you can, then start a new thread having followed the sticky instructions. ASJ112 will help you as required.

As for anti-virus/spyware/maware etc tips read Malware Prevention Tips for the definitive Boards recommendations.

What do ppl think of Glary Utilities ...... I've been using this lately and its removed a lot of junk from the Registry.....much more so than the Registry cleaner in ccleaner....and I've had no problems.

Aye, I'd use Ccleaner and Spybot S&D as a first step.
