Curious to see how much people have spent for their braces. I'm in Cork and paid €4500 and hopefully getting them off in the next few months. :D

    Hi there

Assuming that you started 2 years ago or thereabouts and had upper and lower treatment, 4500 was an average price for a specialist orthodontist in Cork. Dublin was 4500 to 5000. Having ceramic or clear braces or a long difficult treatment could have increased the cost of the treatment a bit.

Now times have changed and I would think that 3500 to 4000 would be an average price for specialist treatment. Specialists in the North charge about 3300, (quoting a patient recently who had gone to Enniskillen assuming that it would be much cheaper up there and returned South for treratment).

At the moment I think that orthodontists have to be open to negotiation the same as every other business and adjust to the economic climate. Discounts may be available for paying up front. I see Irisheyes quoted 3000 which is a very good price assuming it is a Specialist doing the work

I got mine on in Aug 2008- had them for 18 months and they cost €5000 for upper and lower. After hearing what other people have paid I feel a bit ripped off but saying that I can't fault the work I had done and I love my teeth now:)

I've been seeing my orthodontist for almost seven years and AFAIK, it's cost about 4,500 euro.
Initially, I didn't want braces or orthodontic work done but now, I can really feel the benefit of it and I'm delighted I was luckily enough to get the chance to have it done.

Hoping to have my braces off within the next couple of months which I'm delighted about, it's been a LONG process ... had pretty much every orthodontic item possible on my teeth at this stage, but it'll all be worth it in the end :)

Can you get braces done at ANY age?

also how long do you have to keep them on for?

    Thanks!

I think it is different for everyone with the amount of time braces need to be kept in, i would imagine that it would depend on how much work needed to be done.
As for age im not sure but my son is 12 and getting them in this month.:D

Thats the thing about trying to compare the prices also, everyones mouth is different and the amount of time, work and money needed will be different.

How much is a meal??? How much is a car??? Depends on so many factors that the question is really pointless. The only advice I would give is that getting braces from anyone other than a proper bona fide orthodontist is poor value as they will be around the same price but with extra experience and knowledge.

Andy. I am 33 and have had them fitted in last 4 months, I do not know if there is an age limit? Also term is usually 30 months. PM me for details of a good specialist orthodontist in south Dublin.

    Hi there

no age limit to getting braces as long as the teeth and gums are healthy age is no barrier.

How long does the treatment take? How long is a piece of string? It could be a few months but on average it is 18 to 24 months for upper and lower treatment. More complicated problems can take 3-4 years.
