Has Fungi the dolphin been replaced by Kerry tourism chiefs?

Fungi the celebrity dolphin must be getting on a bit. I think he first became famous in the mid eighties. So in all probability he has passed away. Did Kerry tourism bosses quietly replace him in order to keep the numbers up. Is there still a dolphin who is referred to by that name?

Heard that too, he's probably still in the sea because they won't take his type in a B&B these days!

Bottlenose dolphins can live into their 40's so I think it's unlikely he's been "replaced".

Yep,now instead of seeing Fungi, there's someone from the Kerry tourist office swimming round in the sea

Yes, I can see a Kerry Tourist Chief in a dolphin suit. That would be par for the feckin course down here in Kerry.

The Healy-Ray family are probably doing it in shifts, and also dressing up as fat leprechauns hiding in the bushes at night.

    I doubt he's been replaced.

Kerry minster 1: We have the replacement Fungi, he's absolutely perfect looks just like him except better, great with people so full of life.

Kerry minister 2: Excellent, release him and we'll have another 20 years of glorious free tourist attract....
Kerry minister 1: ah, he's swimming out into the ocean.
Kerry minster 2: Arse, didn't think of that.

Well he did "go away for a bit" round about the time he would have been reaching a dolphin's natural life expectancy and then returned rejuvenated a few months later.

It takes a couple of weeks to condition (re:mind control) a fresh dolphin.

As someone who LOVES fungi don't think hes been replaced because years ago he used do a lot more jumping out of the water etc whereas now he just kind of swims along by the boat... old age I reckon :D

Well if you're going to replace him, at least replace him with something cool like a shark or a giant squid

Or replace him with someone with more blubber, like Mary Harney.

The last thing we need is a Japanese whaling fleet turning up

The Japanese prefer quality over quantity, and even Greenpeace wouldn't try and stop them if they did turn up.

I believe poor fungi is alive and well and of course being exploited to every last degree. I worked and lived in dingle in the early 90's for about four years and it was just a jock to watch the carry on. Rarely was Fungi actually seen, he tired of the boats chasing him and more recently he stays around some coves in the bay. Last time i saw him was about four years ago, he is badly scarred from Boats chasing him, apparently there is a percentage refund if tourists don't get to see him.

Fungi has made quite a few millionaires in dingle and is more than deserving of a graceful retirement.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

When I was down there nearly 2 years ago there were two adult dolphins with their baby dolphin and then another one came along that they said was Fungi.

I was in Dingle a couple of years ago and went on one of the boat trips. He came right up to the boat and swam alongside it, then he went off a few feet away and was jumping out of the water for a while.
I think he enjoys the attention. He is free to come and go if he wants and he chooses to stay.

I think a lot of people would take trips to see FF'er's thrown into the see.
That could replace Funghi. Or rather eplace the clockwork dolphin that replaced Funghi years ago.
