I'm a bloke by the way lol, so I wouldn't know where to be looking. I tried a few chemists and supermarkets but nothing there.

I used to have a red mohawk and I want to go back to it for a laugh.

I'm talking about really dark redish, or winey colour.

    Cheers peeps.

Scharzkopf Live XXXL hair colour has a really deep vibrant red! You can get it in Tesco or Boots chemists. I've seen it in a lot of shops actually so it should be easy to find. Its priced around a tenner.

Its a permanent colour btw, so it doesn't wash out.

I've used it myself over blonde hair and it really stands out!

if you could get to newbridge down the side entrance of whitewater is salon services and you can get whats called crazy colour its semi permenant[ colour and you can bye that in there with out having to have a card for the place its only 4 or 5 euro a bottle... ]:):):):) oh and no mixing needed either so it is easy to use and make sure and get gloves too..

+1 for Scharzkopf Live XXXL. I bleached my hair and used the red one and it was very vibrant! It fades quite quickly (all red dyes do). I had to re-dye every 3 weeks. The dyeing is a very simple process though, just mix it up, shove it on your hair, massage it about a bit and leave it for an hour.

Crazy Color is absolutley rubbish, don't buy it.

Schwarzkopf XL dyes (in any Boots shop, or Superdrug) do about 7 different shades of red, and they take very well to hair (I dyed my hair a deep red from black, with no bleaching needed). In superdrug, it's on sale at the moment at 4.59, usually it's about 6-7 euro.

Lastly, if you go out to the Omnipark in Santry, there's a shop upstairs in there called Hair Crazy. They do a bottle of this AMAZING dark red dye that takes to even the darkest hair and lasts for ages too. I can't remember what it's called but it's on the first shelf to your left as soon as you walk in the door, in a round brown bottle that looks like a bottle of hand wash :D

DONT DONT DONT get crazy colour. It goes everywhere (ruined my bath and shower curtain) also it washes out really quickly

If you go into any terrisales they will have jeans colour. Get Chili red, its really bright and doesnt stain everything.

I would recommend la riche directions hair dye. You do have to bleach your hair first (i'd recommend the b blonde one from boots). the big bonus with this is that, even though its only semi permanent, its more of a stain than like a chemical colour if ya get me? So you can leave it in for hours (as many as poss, i often did 6 hours..)and it wont melt your hair or anything.

I used about 8 or 9 of the different colours over the years and loved it. Big tip is that after you wash out the dye (the water will not run clear no matter what the tub says!!), DONT use shampoo for at least a day or as long as you can. Instead plaster it with conditioner, this helps lock in the colour.

As its a stain it can get kinda everywhere, but put vaseline around your forehead and make sure to wear gloves and old clothes and throw some newspapers down and that kinda thing and you'll be grand !!!

you can get it in Asha in stephens green or on one of the shops down the left hand side of george's st arcade. its usually somewhere around 6-8 euro and a tub lasted me about 2-3 dyes of shoulder length hair (ie it lasts ages). You will have to dye it every 3 weeks or so but its manageable!!!

oh and it comes in lots of colours!! http://www.lariche.co.uk/directions-hair-colour/
regarding the xxl schwarzkopf one that a couple of people mentioned, it has bleach in it so if you dont think you're bleaching your hair, you are. I wouldnt advise using this one if you've any other colour in your hair (esp henna :o )

hope thats not information overload and is actually helpful!!

I always use crazy colour's 'Fire' and as much as I hate the fact that it gets everywhere, ruins the bath + towels, runs pink when you wash it or when you sweat.. it has fabulous vibrancy.. for about 2 weeks. Wouldnt recommend it.

I have my hair dyed vibrant red at the moment and I love it. I use Jeans colour deep red. It's very easy to apply. You just smother your hair with it and leave it on for about 2 hours (the bottle says 15 minutes but I've found leaving it on longer gives a way brighter colour). I think a red mohawk sounds savage so good luck with it!

Red fades though, I have to dye my ahir every 2 weeks. Its worth it though.
Everywhere I go I get complimented on my hiar. I've even had waiters come up to me and say your hair is cool and guys in shops! That never happened when it was brown!

I dyed over light brown. You could lighten your hair first.

I started bleaching my own hair when I was about 14, honestly it's not that hard just follow the instructions and buy a treatment to use in your hair afterwards. You won't even need to bleach it to the blonde stage to
get a vibrant red, I bleached mine first to a orange-yellow and put magenta dye on it & it came out VERY bright. Just be warned though, red it the hardest color to get out of your hair if you want to change it! (well, go lighter.
If you decide to go back to dark hair it will be fine since bleached hair needs to be dyed red before the brown/black dye will stick to it)

My hairdresser uses Loreal in the brightest red he has, and then when that starts to fade, I use the crazy colour in fire. I get it on ebay for £3 (plus postage), and it lasts for over 3 weeks. It is messy putting it on and rinsing it, but so worth it for the vibrance and shine, and it's vegetable dye, so it won't wreck your hair.

+1 for Scwarzkopf XXL - i use their blonde. A friend of mine has used the red and it turned out fab!

Just dont think about getting rid of it anytime soon though  Its the worst to get out unless your going darker :)

I would post a pic of my hair but I actually don't know how! I don't own a digital camera and only have a camera on my phone..

I have dark brown hair naturally and went to the hairdressers when I initally went red. He put peroxide on my hair to lighten it then put on Jeans Colour Chiil Red. It's a vegetable dye and won't wreck your hair. My hair actually feels way softer after using it! I did need a lot of treatments after the peroxide though.
I used Redken Anti-Snap and Redken CAT Treatment to repair any damage done. I also use conditioning masks every week.
    Red rocks!!

A brand call 'LIVE' hair dye has a really bright and vibrant red colour available. Other bright colour hair dyes can dry your hair out, but I think this is like a regular box dye

Hi there. This is my first post on boards. I am seriously thinking of dying my hair red too. The Scwarzkopf XXL sounds like the one for me. I was just wondering if anybody know how long it takes to wash out. As its my first time dying it red and am blonde I would like to know as this is a trial run. If it turns out terrible I am just wondering how long I will have to live with my mistake for ;). Thanks.

Its a permanent colour so it won't completely wash out. But when I died mine over my blonde hair it took about a month or so for it to really fade, I need to put more in over it soon!

Which dye did you use in the end?

Washing up liquid normally does the trick for me.

I know this is an old thread but just in case anyones interested I find henna great. I have the most insanely vibrant red hair from using this stuff over the years and I get stopped by people asking what I use all the time. I modelled for a tony and guy photo shoot a few years ago and the girls working in there couldn't believe I used a plant root that looked like cow poo to dye my hair and reckoned they'd never manage to get it to that tone with their own dyes. :p They were kind of laughing in disgust about it putting it into my hair in a kind of oh my god shes a mad woman way but were totally gobsmacked when the saw the results. Its only 3 euro a packet and you'd get two dyes from it if you have short-medium length hair. It makes it really shiney too. I use el cahira mahogancy you get it in health food shops. It doesn't have that artificial tone to it, people always assume its natural even though its absurdely red. :D I couldn't reccomend it more basically, I think its a shame people don't know about it and the more you use it the better the tone gets. I'll never go back to blonde I never got complemented on my hair before going red!

I can't find a picture thats just right but its somewhat along these lines:

EDIT: should prob mention hennas permenant and you can't bleach after it unless you want greeny blonde hair!

I used Scwarzkopf XXL Hypnotic Red. A friend recommended nail varnish remover to get it off skin and it worked. Thanks again.

I'm thinking of buying this http://haircrazy.com/product/fire-crazy-color/ as I saw it mentioned here. My hair is currently fairly bright in the sun/light, but otherwise looks brownish. Will this give me a vibrant red colour? How do I go about bleaching my hair if I'm doing this myself? I have quite thick hair, just below my shoulders. Thanks.

There is some video's and tutorials on Youtube.

Tuckmill has vibrant red hair. She uses Majirel mix from L'oreal Professionnel in Rouge with 6% (I think) peroxide and then uses the crazy colour once every two weeks.

    Give her a pm :)

i know this is an old thread but after reading everybody's replies, i thought id just add my own contribution :P ive had dark red hair for about a year now and have always used a loreal recital preference dye in ultra violet. i really love the colour because it looks browny-red in dark lights, but gives a lush red shine in the sun :D
