Exterior Only Vs Bare Metal

    Hey lads,

Planning on getting the T/A sprayed in the coming months. Got a few quotes averaging 2k for exterior only and up to 3.5k for a full strip. I'm happy enough to just do the outside but there are a few squeaks from parts of the car (it is 30 years old!). If I spend the money on doing the full job it will be correct but as the car will pretty much be taken apart and reassembled will it tighten the car up and rid me of squeaks?

    Thanks dudes!

    MCMLXXV,

i guess it depends on your budget...

i would imagine you could probably double the full strip and paint quote, because invariably, even if you don't find any rust/bodywork to be fixed before the paint, you'll end up needing to replace just about all the rubbers, fixings, etc. and it'll take twice as long as they suggest..

these things have a habit of always becoming a journey, rather than a quick job..

btw, it may also be down to how much you love your car.. in my case, each of the cars i've completely restored, i've ended up selling as i've fallen out of love with them soon after the resto was complete.. maybe i became a little too intimate? :)

id do the whole car !!!

strip it & get it all sprayed , their wont be any shade differences then on your doors or sills , between inside & out .
plus when you strip it & put it back you should have all the squeaks & rattles sorted .

i had a top notch bodywork & spray painter fella down with me last night & he priced up my manta coupe for me .

    welding around 500
spraying 900 ( with me suppying the paint )
i think thats a very decent price & its the most reasonable one iv got :)
plus the cars going to be shutzed as well .

if anybody wants his number give me a shout if interested .

That sounds like a great deal Manta!

But are you doing the stripping / sanding and reassembly yourself?
