Hi there, what does everyone think is average to pay for a concert ticket, for eg in the 02? I've seen a few performers in the O2 and pay around 30-40Euro which i think is reasonable.
I just got offered tickets to Alicia Keys at a price of 100Euro each - I think its a bit over the top! Rihanna is 35, Lady Gaga was 35, Lilly Allen was 30 - I dont see how she is charging such high prices - I would expect with Madonna, Elton John, Paul Mac etc... what is everyone else's thoughts.....

Lady Gaga's stage up must have cost a fortune but she only charged the normal price!!

To be honest there doesnn't seem to be a normal price for gigs. The prices are all over the place. I don't see how people can justify asking for €100+ for tickets. These are normallt the big names who clearly don't need they money. It annoys me so much. What is even worse is people still pay for it.

Have been to a good few gigs since the point reopened as the o2, all for around the 55 euro mark (€60 after the ticketmaster fee). But having said that I've been to see Leonard Cohen for €125 a ticket too.

But I still think €55's too much. Should be max €40 if you ask me. And that should include ticketmaster's fee, or else find a different agent.

But it'll never change cos people will still pay whatever's asked. People won't take the chance of not buying a ticket in protest in fear that the gig will sell out and they'll either miss it or end up paying more for a ticket afterwards from a tout.

Although I did hear that Metallica fans in Israel successfully had their ticket prices reduced there after boycotting a gig.

The most expensive Alicia Keys tickets are €82.60 after all the various booking fees etc so someone is trying to make a profit on you. Also they don't appear to be sold out either on ticketmaster.ie.

Thanks for replies. There are tickets still available on Ticketmaster for Alicia - which shows it is expensive as the other gigs I went to sold out nearly immediately or they put on another date.
Will have to look again at the tickets I'm being offered but even 80euro is a bit steep ...

I think we are ripped off big time. if you go to a show or theatre, you get around 2 hours entertainment, and most of the time the charge is no more than €30. I know music is more lucrative though. I think for a show at the O2 for instance you should get it for 30-35 euro. maybe 40-50 for these so called 'bigger acts', like neil young, mcCartney etc. In UK, you'd almost get 2 tickets for the price of one here. Also stadium gigs here are up on 80 euro. the band or organisers or whoever get approx 7 or 8 times as many people in, and charge almost double. Surely this is wrong too. apparently, the high charges here are down to insurance costs, which I think is something that should be tackled.
Same goes for sports events, rugby or all-ireland latter stage games. ridiculously high.
It's a pity people would stop going and it would force prices down. but that won't happen.

Tickets Prices are based on venue rental / overheads (printing / advertising / Insurance - which is apparently particularly high in Ireland *cough* CARTEL* cough* NO REGULATION *cough* etc) / promoter profit and ARTIST FEE's ... a lot of times tickets are such high prices is because the the artist you want to see is charging a f**kin enormous fee ... ie Paul "Multi fooking Millionaire, more money than sense" McCartney is charging MCD a lot more than say AC/DC or Kiss ....

    McCartney : €86 - €156
    Kiss : €49

I expect to pay between €60 and €90 for a ticket. I won't go any higher than €100 unless I'm really desperate.

I paid €79 for Elton, €82 and €86 for Bruce, €72 for Meat Loaf. It seems like a steal to be seeing Status Quo for €45! :D

Paid more than 100 for Whitney Houston but the Prodigy were only like 68 euro.. Pendulum are like E 40 altogether :D

If people are going to pay it why shouldn't they charge that much? They're a business.

I am happy to pay about 50E for a concert. I wouldn't pay anymore even I really wanted to see a band. On another note I know that people think the weekend festivals are very expensive here compared to other countries but they are good value compared to going to a concert.

    Exactly.
I was thinking of doing Reading/Leeds in the uk, was looking like around 223 euro for the weekend. About the same as oxegen I think?

About prices in the o2, the o2 is expensive to rent ou.like 85k a night.
Say for 30stm, tickets were 39...but they only sold 4500 tix. It's all about striking the right blanca. They probaly barely covered the cost. If they cost 3 euro more they might have made an extra 12k. All about finding the right balance.

There's not really a problem with them "ripping us off", as they have sone all the calculations...and if people will buy/sell it out at a certain price then why not charge that.
