Aintree Grand National

I've been watching the Grand National on TV every year since 1983 when Corbiere won.

This year, I'm studying in the UK, and I would like to go to see the famous race.

Can I just turn up on the day, and pay the aintree entry fee ?
Or do I need a ticket in advance ?

Any hints for people who haven't been to Aintree before ?

I'll be driving from Birmingham, where should I park (I don't mind walking a couple of kilometers or more) ?
Or I wouldn't mind parking say 10km away, and getting a bus or taxi if there is no parking at Aintree.

    Thanks

Anyway - you will be very lucky to pay on the day as normally sold out. Get a ticket in advance if you can. Park in the city centre and get the train, leaves you at the track... you will not get near the track with your car unless you want to be stuck in traffic for hours.

You'll have no problem getting Tattersals tickets outside for near enough facevalue from the touts.

If you arrive on the day you will get in anyway. You just won't get the best viewing areas, but these are expensive anyway, around £80 maybe. You maybe should go to the bank along by the first line of fences, £15 - £20 gets you in there and there are plenty of big screens to watch the finish of the National and the other races. It's called the Steeplechase enclosure.
Check here and call them about car parking.

def the train from liverpool to the track. dont be put off by the crowds you see on the platforms, they shift very quickly with a conveyor belt of trains. Might (MIGHT!!) have a spare ticket (PM me) for Grand National day. Have 1 ticket for thursday (best day's racing IMO) and friday....
