    Hi,

My doctor has just prescribed my Lexapro 10mg, for depression, I was just wondering if anyone else has taken these before, and if so what side effects if any were experienced?

    Thanks

    Hi Op

I started off on 10mg of Lexapro and am currently on 20mg as the 10 didnt really help.

I havent noticed any side affects with the exception of an increased appetite and putting on a little weight as a result.

I feel lot better taking it and am willing to sacrifice a model's figure so I can feel good and be able to function normally.

Truely havent had any side affects at all bar that

did your doctor not talk to you about them?everyone shows different effects of drugs..

I was on it years ago. At the beginning you will probably lose your appetite but that goes away after a while. I also found that I was really tired and found it very difficult to do anything after work but eat my dinner and go to bed but it wasn't such a bad thing. The good news is that after 9 months on them I was feeling alot better and 5 years on I haven't had any depressive symptoms. Give them a go for at least a month and hopefully you will begin to see a difference. Best of luck with it.

    Hello

I recently began taking lexapro too

Havent put on any weight so far although i jog and train alot.

One thing that has happened to me though is its made me have very vivid dreams every night, ill have at least 3 or 4. Naturally my dreams center around the events which made me depressed in the first place so i tend to wake up feeling pretty down, i get better during the day usually.

    Just a headsup!

i was on 20g and i found that they brought back night terrors which would raise issues and so after 6 months they wanted to increase the dose but i asked to be taken off.

i started off with 20mg of lexapro, and took risperdal at the same time,
found that the first week or so i was waking up with bad headaches.
Took the risp for about a month, which i found really helped to calm my mind, (it was running day and night).

The lex made me feel better about life, and more able to cope with it as well. I spent about 12-14 months on 20mg, before gradually over a 18 month period coming off them completely, its not that i wanted to be on them that long, it was more a case off slowly coming off them to be sure that i was able to get by without them.

Off them close on a year now, and am well able to cope with life.
Personally for me, taking lexapro was the right decison at the time, dont expect an overnight miracle, give them a chance to work.

    best wishes,

pm me if you want to

I started on Lexapro 20mg a few weeks ago after being on Zispin previously. About a week in, I was feeling extremely down, as in suicidal. Was watched for a bit but left on the Lexapro. Also take Stilnoct so I can get some sleep. Had my dosage upped on Monday having settled on Lexapro in the last two weeks or so.

No major side effects, have lost my sex drive however.

I got wierdmuscle jumps and dreams for a while. But they wore off and the benefits outweighed the bad bits. Good luck with it!

After two days on 10mg lexapro I had a total loss of libido and couldn't orgasm, had shattering teeth and couldn't sleep. I put the not sleeping thing down to stress and my anxiety disorder. The loss of libido was definitely the lexapro. I've decided to stop taking them, and have told my doctor. I'm in a relationship and that's the only thing that seems to be going well in my life at the moment so I'd rather not **** it up with lexapro. Besides I'm seeing an amazing CBT counsellor who is just as effective as lexapro and she told me I'd be better off in the long run trying myself for another few months before going on lexapro.

I do know, however, that the side effects are generally rare. I think 10% of all users develop one or more of them and unfortunately I was one of them. I don't mind though, I just hope I get back to normal sexually! :(

Not everyone loses their sex drive and stuff, so don't worry too much. You might not have any side effects at all, just a game of wait and see really. Best of luck with it.

I've been on Lexapro since November and haven't had any adverse side effects from it. It takes a while for it to start working, but it's definitely worth it. I feel so much better now and much more hopeful about the future than I did 6 months ago. :)

As said b4 not everybody is affected by side effects, give them a go hopefully you will be feeling better soon:D

I have been on lexapro on and off for the last nine years started on 5mg and went up to 80mg at one point
not everyone has side effects however did find my sex drive went i still wanted to cuddle my OH but didnt want anything else :-(
long term effect was that i just didnt feel anything didnt feel happy didnt feel sad i just didnt feel anything and just floated through life
found out i was pregnant in december and came off them altogether as can make you miscarry or so im told and six months later im dealing with life i have good days and bad ones and found that i had to cut stressful people out of my life (not necessarily a bad thing but one happened to be my mam will try working on that when i can) and hopefully im going to try and stay off them once baby is born

but i wish all who are on them the very best and i do recommend buying a note pad and writing down how you feel its one thing taking pills to cope but you do need to get it out of you somehow and talking to a counsellor helps friends too but i know sometimes this can be hard and also you get to the stage you just dont want to bore them anymore so having somewhere to write down your thoughts really helped me :-)

Took them in 2004, lost interest in sex completely. Never returned to the way it was either.

I was on a high dosage of lexapro for about a year or so but eventually asked to switch to a different med because of the sexual disfunction side effect.

I know not everybody experiences this side effect but it does seem to be mentioned a lot as one of the main ones.

Hope things work out for you OP

Yes I was on it for a month for anxiety and lost the ability to orgasm. Not good when in a long term relationship. It didnt help either with the anxiety.

I do think talking to someone is much better than relying on medication. You can go on a waiting list to see a CBT therapist for free on the HSE. Theres a reason behind your depression you shouldnt mask it with medication to numb your feelings.

As per my previous in March went back to doc he said stay on them But i insisted he change them as i had no interest in sex whatsover ( mind you they did help my depression) he put me back on cipramil 30mg. I have some interest but not what it used to be

Best of luck to everyone on them however

Have been taking Lexapro for the last 8 for depression, had another setback recently and my doctor changed my dose from 15mg to 20 mg as a precaution. This change in dose has affected my ability to orgasm :(. I am going to try and scale my dose back again and see will this help, as my mood is good really.

I've been on lexapro for a few years, for the first day or two I was feeling sick and didn't feel like eating but once that settled down I was fine. Takes a while to work, about a month before my family and myself noticed a difference. no other side effects in my case. Has helped massively, good luck:)

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but I just started on Lexapro about 5 days ago (5mg for the first week) and in the last 36 hours I've broken out in a really bad rash on my face and neck. Dry, red, itchy skin. Has this happened to anyone else?

I got slight itching on my thigh from it but it was more an irritation not a rash. Go see your doctor about it to be on the safe side if it persists.

Rashes are a relatively common side effect of Escitalopram (Lexapro), by no means the most common, but they are frequently reported; so there's possibly a causal link between the two.

I am currently on lexapro just 10mg for about 6 months now and find they are good especially for excessive worrying which I had, I used to worry so bad to the point I was getting sick, couldn't have bowel movements or eat and would tire myself out so much by just sitting down worrying it was so awful I thought I was just weird and would never be able to change it but I realised yesterday that I have actually not worried in the last few months, okay I worry about small stuff but it's normal worry like I'd think about it and after a few minutes Im grand I'm happy. They take a lot of time and patience please take your time with them they will work but takes time and lots of patience and before you know it something might happen and youl realise how far you've came and the benefits x
