    Hi,

i am planning on putting cobble lock in and around the front door, can you someone tell if, i make sure there is a 1200mm square flat platform at the door
and that the cobble lock, slopes away in all directions at an angle not less than 1:20, could i get away without having to install a handrail and kerb etc.

    cheers

you do not have to install a handrail and kerbs!!!

you are doing exactly what is proper and to teh spirit of the regs. A 'sloped' access is required.... any one who puts in a 'ramp' doesnt understand the requirement....

I seem to recall the slope per the regs is 1:12. Open to correction

1:12 is the maximum gradient. The OP is talking about a slope of 1:20 which is a gentler gradient........

The 1200 square area at your door is almost level, put it in a 1:80 fall away from the door.
Any ramp work should be 1:20 or less, anything steeper than this - up to a maximum of 1:12 should only be used where absolutely unavoidable.
There is specific regulations regarding the length of ramps, but we'll stay on topic!

Just picked that out of the regs, your lucky enough!!

"(f) where the gradient is steeper then 1 in 20,
there should be a suitable continuous handrail
on each side of slopes and landings (see par.
    1.6)."

you are quoting from sections for "buildings OTHER than dwellings"

go to section 1b for dwelling access
