Cabinet Reshuffle and Question about John Curran

    Hi folks,

I'm confused about something political so I think this is the right place. :P

Just a quick question. With the cabinet re-shuffle that went on during the week, and John Curran being appointed to Chief Whip, does he retain his position as Minister of State with special responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy?

Also, if he doesn't, can anyone tell me who is the new Minister for Drugs Strategy?

I did a lot of searching but couldn't find anything that could answer my question.

    Thanks very much :)

    Hauk

i wondered this too hauk, apparently pat carey did say that afternoon that he intended to take it on himself, as part of being senior minister for community equality and gaeltacht, having been jnr minister for drugs himself before,

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2010/0324/1224266936387.html
Mr Carey said he would be working closely with marginalised communities across Ireland that have been “ravaged by issues like drugs”. He said Ireland had a vibrant community sector and he looked forward to assisting in developing that further.

but it does mean there no longer be jnr drugs minister, which was specific and important part of ff policy to have junior minister on drugs, and was promised...

“This is on top of the dismantling of the National Drugs Strategy Team. That was done on the premise that a super junior ministry for drugs was to be created in its place. This is yet another broken promise.” ENDS

there was a short discussion of this on liveline on thursday or friday...

aengus o snodaigh got dail debate about it

    Many thanks expectationlost.

So basically everything is in limbo at the moment, and the NDS has been dismantled, and shovelled onto Carey. Quite odd since their new strategy(which I oppose) was only released towards the end of last year.

    Many thanks. ^_^
