    Heard some of this earlier.
They were initially asking people to raise €600 - €1000 for the pleasure of running a half/full marathon with them on a given day, what f**kin planet are they on ?

How about trying to get people who take part to donate €50 regardless of the distance and see how you go from there with raising the profile and media interest etc. massive PR fail here.

Yep have to agree crazy amount to try and raise. They did say this morning that they will now accept any amount and people can still join them on the run they probably weren't getting the interest they thought they would have at the start.

I appreciate that getting the final detail on the various courses is a huge ask, but i'd expect that the initial location of the event in each county should be known by know.

How fast will each marathon be completed?

There's something mildly disturbing about the pose of the '3' in their logo.

The guys are expecting to run them in about 4:30, last time I heard. Anyone else running with them can do any pace they like.

That would be a great achievement. The best of luck to them.

I know the article said run but there was always the possibilty that they could trot out each one in around 6 hours which would be considerably more do-able.

(I'm reading a book at the moment and it refers to an American marathoner, Brian Sell, who trained on 160 miles per week!)

I have to admit that is why I decided not to run. Wasnt prepared to raise 1000 quid which wasnt going to stay within the county. People are strapped enough but would be more likely to donate if the money was going to a local charity, methinks.

Best of luck to them. Would be keen , if they would take a lesser amount.:)

All money stays in the country as far as I'm aware. There are three charities benefiting from the event, Irish Autism Action, Autism Northern Ireland and the Irish Cancer Society.

In the COUNTRY - yes but not in the COUNTY. People down the rural parts of the country like to give locally as so much of what is collected in big charities goes into a big national fund and often they dont get to see their money in action. Whereas if it goes locally they know that their hard earned dosh is being used as it was intended and not paying out the postal bills of unwanted "donation" spam mail through the door, or in projects four or five hours drive away where they cant avail of it.

    Fair enough. Misread your post.

    NO harm done. :)
I do wish them well and will try and get some dosh together for them if I can. Makes it a distinct possiblity - running a leg with them now even if I cant raise as much as 1,000.
32!! And here I am panicking about doing my first small ultra.

Whats with all this typical irish negativity, these lads are running their heart out for charity the more positivity about the event the more companies will come on board with this . They need our support so stop moaning and get out there and join them for a few miles. Im sure at this stage anyone who can raise the money has done so , so find out on their website when they are coming to your county. All donations will be greatly recieved so if you want to give a hundred euros or so do it and stop giving out. These are two super lads and they need our support. We should be thinking of the people this money will help. Our goverment wont help our society so we have get out there and do it for ourselves.

Good luck lads i think your great.

I think they are great too .
I would really really really love to run with them but I wont be able to raise one thousand euro for the priviledge of doing so .
Its not negativity - its reality.

I'm running with them tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to it. The weather forecast isn't great but it can't be any worse than Cork last month.

Try as you might, I didn't manage to raise the full €1000. These are recessionary times and people don't give as much as they used to a couple of years ago. They have acknowledged as much on their website. Initially they said you'd have to raise the full amount, later they changed it to "some may raise more, some less", or words to that effect.

Some people said they'd give money after my run, but I won't get to 1000, it's just not realistic.

Anyway, it won't take away from tomorrow.

I had great fun with this event in Killarney today. It even stopped raining after 4 laps (out of 6).

Gerry ran his fastest marathon so far and is looking really good; Ken struggled a lot with his knee. He had to walk and needed a physio session halfway through. It was amazing to still see him smiling all the way through, though. As Gerry said, they spent a year preparing for this and will not give up without a real fight.

    Thanks to everyone today!

So glad you had a good run today and im sure the guys enjoyed their time with you, do you not agree that they are two of the nicest and most genuine guys you will meet and are solely doing this for the good of others neither of them are dads yet so they have no idea of autism and are still running. Please tell all your friends about this challenge..... They are truely to be admired . This should be a topic of talk in every home in Ireland F..k the recession we are all going through it trust me i know but there is always someone worse off than ourselves these parents of autisic children need our support so come on Ireland lets rally together after all charity begins at home!
