Has anyone else noticed the escalation in ads since Paul Williams left the Sunday World.

The race is truely on to become the Tabloid home of Irish grey grimness sicko crime scum thugs - gratuitous use of superlatives and sensationalism at it's best.

In fairness it's not as if the country wasn't depressed enough as is!

Escalation? its a bit more than that Paul Williams is on tv every few minutes now getting annoying (worse than those ringtone ads).

Paul Williams is a cunt, that's all I know.

He slated the News Of The World for years, calling it a 'British Gutter Rag'.

    He's a hypocrite extraordinaire.

He's made more money from there being a high crime rate in this country than anybody else.

His books are all just rehashes of his first one.

They are the same exaggerated gossip that he sources from junkies and small time criminals, that just want to settle scores with other criminals.

    He's a parasite.

    Fucker thinks he's The Equalizer.

They're all rags. I wouldn't line the Cat's littertray with those papers.

True but he makes up some good stories, those criminals wouldn't be out of place in a Batman comic

    Gospel truth.

Around ten years ago I made up a story about a local gangster that was on the run.

My mate was going out with his daughter and had he had told him to stay away from her or he'd kill him.

So, on the Beer one weekend I made up the most bizarre story about how I was on the 41c going through the airport and seen the guy getting on the Bus wearing women's clothes.

Paul Williams has wrote about that in a centre page special on the "gangster".

He also has repeated the story in at least one of his books.

Not the only lies in his books either.

It reminds me of the poster for (I think) Alien Versus Predator.

    "Whoever wins... We lose..."

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The real winner will be the guy on the FAS scheme that gets to put the black boxes over the crims eyes in all the photos.

    Yup, he named him.

He also gave him a nickname based on his name.

A nickname he never had, it was a rhyming name he was known as locally but Williams either made up what he embellished the name to mean, or someone told him it as a wind up.

To this day the guy is refered to as this 'nickname' based on bullshit.

His own books contradict him anyway.

If you read them you will see him go into minute detail about what people did and then you will read in his next book that that gangster wasn't even in the country yet Williams will have named them as murdering people

I have spoken with people who new The General also and say that Williams book (the one the movie was based on) is full of lies and untruths.

I'll tell you one thing that always bugged me.

When Williams says: "My colleague Veronica Guerin was murdered.."

She was no "colleague" of his.

She was a investigative crime journalist that never sensationalized crime.

That muppet has lived off her coattails long enough.

He's not fit to be spoken of in the same sentence as Veronica Guerin.

Some journalist! A proper journalist makes sure to have at least two sources to back up their claims- it's just good sense. Williams is probably banking on the fact that the people he writes about will not sue him and open themselves up to further scrutiny. I can see that one biting him in the ass one of these days.

The biggest crime in those papers is Amanda Brunkers weekly column. The dizzy, self centered cúnt.

So why did Williams leave the sunday world? They have a couple of people rehashing the same sh it every week now, usually in a cheap booklet. Williams style of writing,if you can call it style, reminds me of those discovery true story docu's, after the break the whole story is retold and then you get 5 minutes of new stuff. When he mentions a crimbo, he also replays everything he has ever written about them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,546 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

I would not wipe my ass with any of the two papers.

As for Williams if I wanted to hear made up crime stories I buy a decent crime book.

Wow, I really dislike the guy but I never thought he would just make stuff up; I thought all his stories came from his sources friends in the Gardai.

One of my main criticisms of Williams is the way he acts as a mouth-piece for certain sections of the police force. I find this ironic because in the General movie (for which he is credited as technical advisor) the Gardai are portrayed as incompetent scumbags.

In the SW however there was never any criticism of the Gardai and people or groups who criticised them were vilified by Williams (e.g. Michael McDowell).

    Some choice William's quotes:

The PSNI: "The most ineffective police force in the world"

The Garda Reserve: Can't remember the exact quote but something along the lines of "wannabe fascists or Hitler Youth"

Donegal Garda Scandal: "A few bad apples blown up out of all proportion"

"There are people out there who are saying that every Garda is a criminal" - Who are these people Paul?

In light of the above I have often wondered why he gets such an easy time when he is interviewed on RTE; are people in RTE worried that "stuff" about them will appear in the papers if they ask him any difficult questions?

I don't think he parted on good terms from the SW. The week after he left they ran an editorial about their crime coverage which included the line "The Sunday World rewards loyalty". This was ostensibly about reader loyalty but I think it may have also been aimed at their former employee.

And finally, here is "Paul William's view of the world" ...

Just connected to the criminal nickname thing ...

Williams was incandescent when he heard the "Viper" was running a debt collection service. But the Viper wouldn't have been very successful in this business without the wonderful brand recognition provided by his newspaper-supplied moniker.

Same for the Monk with his limo rental business ...
