I will ask the question - why do want to strip paint of a ceiling??

If its because its rough etc ? why not sand it
if the old paint(maybe distemper) is reacting with new then a primer may sort you out,

Helped my brother re/do his b/room lately.
Ceiling was crap..as he had covered it with something similiar to Artex previously.

We had to scrape that off using a couple of inch wide wood chisels...it came off in showers of white flakes.

To be honest its not an easy job ..but we done it and gave the ceiling 2 coats of P.V.A solution..and mixed a small amount of PVA to the new application.

Yubbly Jubbly Job. Hope this helps
