Have a problem with my monitor . When I switch on the PC the monitor does not work.

I have to hit F8 and go to last known good configuration - and then my PC starts up OK

    Does anyone know why ?

How do you know when to press f8 if monitor is not working

Have you made any hardware changes recently?; or updated any drivers for the monitor and/or graphics card? Once you get in the next time, check the drivers for the monitor and graphics card in Device Manager to see if they've been updated. Windows Update is automatically set to automatically download updates for everything, but sometimes you'll get an update that makes something incompatible with your current set-up

...this is why I turn off Windows Update and periodically check for updates myself; and then choose which ones I actually want/need.

Monitor blinks and remains on for about 2 seconds , - just enough time for me to find the option of last known configuration.

Sounds like a problem with your graphics drivers, a clean driver reinstall might help.

What version of windows are you using ?

if this problem is only recent then try system restore

Thanks for the advice and of course thats the first thing we need to do , is to see if the monitor will work on another machine .

Is the graphics driver on a cd , or where can we try to re-install this ?

It should be on a CD that came bundled with the PC when you bought it. If you don't have this, then you should be able to download a driver if you just have the name, make, and model of the card. You probbably do'nt need all of this info, however.

System Restore never works for me when something goes wrong, but it's in:

Control Panel - System - System Restore tab

Thansk for all the advice here , - unfortunately I have given up on this monitor .

Yesterday the colours went crazy and it was impossible to use .

It is now been boxed and going back to dabs.ie - Thye have agreed to take it back , but I have to pay the shipping costs .

Does anyone know , if www.dabs.ie issue a refund or do they replace the faulty monitor ?

    Thanks
