Just wondering if anyone did their own wedding video and how it worked out? Decided against getting a videographer but afraid I might regret this so going to buy a camcorder and get a friend to capture the important moments ;)

I did. I got a friend to take the video and then I cut it and put it all together in windows movie maker which is quite powerful.

If you are prepared to take some time, you can get a good result.

You need quite a lot of footage though because a lot of it will be useless and you need enough good bits!

I did the video for a couple, had never videoed anything other than one football match before and was quite daunted by the task. They werent really bothered about videoing it but done it this way just in case. The thing i would say to you is to make sure you get a good camera for it and let who ever is filming it for you play around with it for a few days so they know how to work it. Then it can be pieced together at the end to produce as good a video (provided you put in a lot of time) as you would pay big money for.I used a company here who pieced it together quite brilliantly for me and it didnt cost much and had some lovely touches at the end.
Big thing is good camera & tripod will provide good quality footage. User just needs to point it in the right direction then.

Tripod - yes. Forgot that. It is vital. Otherwise the film will look really wobbly.

I'm not doing it (I hate being videod :o) but a cousin of mine did. He said the same thing as the guys above, Tripod is essential. No matter how steady a hand you have, there'll always be some wobble.

Any recs? Tried the gadget forum but got nothing. Am putting the feelers out to see if anyone has one I can borrow, but to buy one still works out way cheaper than getting someone to do it!

Thanks all for your advice :)

I have been looking into exactly the same thing :)

First stop was the bargains forum here, they recommended the Sanyo VPC-CG10EBK Dual High Definition Video Camcorder & Photo Camera at £99

So i hit the intarweb to research this "bargain" and was pleasantly surprised.

    Review here on camcorderinfo.com

In fact it ranks really highly in their overall list, and is highest at this price point with optical zoom - http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php (19)

Youtube examples of film shot with this :-

Every review of camcorders i have read <about €300 all are not good indoors...

I do want wedding video but don't want to break the bank, so much other stuff will do that fine! :pac::P

We weren't going to get one. we both hate being videod, had thought of getting a relation to do it but then though we didn't want to be putting him out for the day! What made me go for a professional one was firstly we managed to get a fairly good deal and secondly the thought that We would have all our friends and family captured so we could look back on them again , we have some old family members so I really think we will be glad we did it. We can get over out own issues with being videod!
