He didnt tell me much about it as im picking up mats i said ill wait till i get them to have a look at it. Does anyone know much about it? Are they good? How do they work? Is it expensive to get fitted?

Consider the FM transmitter option. For 7euro (incl post from HK) I got a SD/USB/Aux jack MP3 player with r/c, it plugs into the cig lighter socket

Yeh ive already tried one the fm transmitters the i trip and its useless not worth the 40 euro i spent, that why im wondering about the honda kit? or something else that works well?

Isn't there some sort of aux port in the back of the radio that allows a wire to be run through to the glovebox?

If you can't find anywhere local and have to buy from the US site you can use a mail forwarder. Just check my sig! Otherwise if luvbulmers01 bro knows the part number just google it. Probably be available in Ireland /UK

OP, I see you joined THAOC earlier and posted up there... good idea!

Here's a guide I made for installing the xcarlink unit on my 04 Accord, should be the same/similar for yours:

    http://thaoc.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=5587

And the website to buy it from is www.xcarlink.co.uk - I got the one with bluetooth attachment and it works well with the ipod attached. Would definitely recommend.

if it has an aux button then all you should need is an auxillery cable and get to the back of the radio. i did it in a toyota and it wasnt the hard. might work out alot easier and alot cheaper for ya yet.

Is the button aux / cd? It depends on what specification car you have I think. My Accord is an 05 Sport spec and just has the aux/cd button. It doesn't have an aux port anywhere so that button just changes to the cd.

I think it's possible to have it hard wired in to the back for an I-Pod, but if you are cheap like me and have a non I-Pod MP3 player, it's a bit more complicated. Never checked out the official Honda parts, but to have a 3.5mm jack installed for my car they need to wire an FM transmitter straight to the aerial input. As it's wired rather than being tranmitted there is no interference, but it's a less than ideal set up and fairly pricey (€250 ish).

Gave up on the idea in the end as my new phone has an FM transmitter and 92.4 seems to give fairly good reception everywhere.

I'm getting a parrot MKi9200 installed into my car tomorrow for iPhone/iPod integration. I'll let you know how it works out.

Yeah I would have suggested the Parrot as well.

I think its a nice bit of gear, but you will probably need to update to the latest firmware for the parrot bluebox (i think the latest is 1.40) you can find it in the Parrot Menu.

Know someone who got this Parrot.

    http://www.expansys.ie/d.aspx?i=183266

Says its great and you put your ipod in behind the faceplate so i suppose you could leave it in the car and noone would know its there. Does bluetooth aswell.

    Pics

    Pricey though.

You couldnt fit that to the accord, as the radio/air con controls are all integrated into the dash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,442 ✭✭✭billbond4

@ brennarr , make sure the installer puts the mute cable from the carkit into the Honda Radio.

I installed a parrot MKi6100 into my 04 accord, and it was a bast**d, the wiring harnesses I got would only send the carkit sound to one speaker, not much good if you want to listen to music, so I had to re-solder the harness I got.
And had to pull out the whole centre dash out to remove the radio to insert the mute cable into the back of radio.
My poor knuckes were in bits after it, as there is lots of metal behind the dash in the accord.

It was worth it though, as the carkit is very nicely integrated into the dash.
All you see is a little bit of wire below the carkit screen and the microphone up in the light cluster at the ceiling.

For those not registered on thaoc i'll put up some pics for you:

You can buy this bit of kit for about €120 from http://www.xcarlink.co.uk

    DSCF0620%20%5B640x480%5D.JPG

Once installed it looks like this:

    DSCF0640%20%5B640x480%5D.JPG

And mic wherever you want but I put mine up here

    DSCF0642%20%5B640x480%5D.JPG

Can't recommend this enough, if you own an Accord this is the definitive ipod/bluetooth solution.

And you can get a different unit to the ipod one that will take usb/aux input so you can hook up almost any mp3 player you can think of.

And only takes 2/3 hours to install yourself, simple enough too. Do it.... :D

Just a quick question about that solution.

If your listening to the Radio and you receive a call, does the radio mute?
Do the steering wheel controls work on a bluetooth Music device? i.e. can you Skip/Rev tracks

No, and that's the only thing I can fault about it! For the bluetooth to work you have to be on the "ipod" channel. Though to give you an idea, if I am on FM radio mode I only have to press the CD button once to get to it, so I can do it from steering wheel/radio.

Good thing about it is everything stays the same - you can control ipod/answer phone through either radio itself or steering wheel. (and you can control ipod via ipod too - so you have tonnes of options to use it)

Hi first of all id like to thank everyone for the suggestions theyve beeen very helpful.

Im thinking im going to go with vikings idea xcarlink system seems to be the one best suited to what i want.

Now I just have to decide whether or not im up the challenge of installing it myself  , although viking thanks for the how to do guide should help greatly if i decide to try in myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,316 ✭✭✭Reginald P. DuM

I have just had the xcarlink installed into my Accord.. Tis early days but I'm happy enough with it. I got someone to install it. He had it finished in half hour. No doubt I could have done it myself but he had all the right equipment and the experience to know easiest way. It would of driven me demented. 30 euro for the install so money well spent in my mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,395 ✭✭✭5500

Another alternative to the xcarlink is the dension icelink, both units are much the same but its nice to have other options over the oem honda one which aint cheap.
