Suunto t3c - Advice

    Hi all,

As the title suggests I'm looking for a bit of advice in relation to the Suunto t3c. Mainly the bike pack edition with the cadence pod.

Anyone got one and if so, what do you reckon?

I'm in 2 minds between this and the Polar CS200. At the minute the fact that the Suunto is a watch is slightly winning out. They just don't seem to be as common and hence, not as many reviews.

All help will be greatly received...

I have a t6c for running, with the dual HR strap which also works with gym treadmills. I also have the foot pod.

It's fine, once you've read the manual. A bit fiddly to pair the pods the first time, then it just works.

Don't use it on the bike, as I have a Garmin for that, but if you're looking for reassurance that Suunto kit works then I can vouch for that in my experience.

Cheers Lumen for that. Just one thing... What's the "dual" strap about?

It's for situations when you need to monitor two heart rates.

At a guess I imagine it transmits both an interference-resistant coded digital signal (for the watch) and an analogue one (for other equipment such as gym equipment or a turbo trainer.)

The Suunto uses a different frequency/protocol/whatever to gym treadmills.

The dual strap sends HR data on both frequencies, so that (in theory) you can watch the HR on the treadmill display instead of checking your wrist.

Why use the watch at all on a treadmill? To record data, e.g. HR average.

TBH it's not that reliable at my gym, and (when I was running, not recently) I tended to just select a workload based on speed and gradient, since there's no variable conditions to worry about.

I think the dual strap was a no-cost option when I bought it.

Good to know it was gym-related because my days of 3-legged racing are long over me. Cheers again for the advice lads.

Have a t3c, good watch, but agree with Lumen, bit fiddly to get used to. Manuals aren't the best either. Don't have a foot pod or bike pod so can't comment on that.
Haven't used a Polar in a while, so maybe compare the manuals. Wouldn't say the t3c is the most user friendly. Got it for free so no complaints from me!
