Hey guys can anyone recommend any desent website developers? I am starting a business and the website will be not too difficult maybe 5/6 pages and possibly with a shopping cart function for a download and host a demo video of the product.

I am about to register the company and thought it prudent also to get the advice of a web developer as well to advise on the best company name/domain name before I start... it will be vital that I employ best SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) techniques to hopefully be on the first page and near the top. what's in a name!?? or is it just the keywords you have in teh coding??

I am looking for a cheap as possible option but I am aware you pay for what you get as well

Anyone know any suitable candidates?? and prices?

I will need also to be able to manage the site myself and to be shown how

    Thanks for any input

First of all you need to define the scope of the project.
the website will be not too difficult maybe 5/6 pages
You will need to define the exact pages and requirements of each page before you can possibly comment on the difficulty level.
and possibly with a shopping cart function
You need to have an exact requirement here. It either will have a shopping cart or not a shopping cart. Then there are other aspects such as number of products, payment gateways, security certificates, also related products/reviews/comparisions/discounts/etc/etc.
a demo video of the product
possibly the least difficult aspect. Will this video be part of your overall marketing plan i.e. viral marketing etc. Have videos etc on your site will also incur higher hosting charges
    domain name before I start
are you looking for a .ie domain or a .com domain. There are some implications with registering a .ie domain and they do cost more
vital that I employ best SEO
hopefully be on the first page and near the top
    just the keywords
SEO would deserves its own topic alone and is a sustained activity, not just a one off activity.
    cheap as possible
You will struggle to have this done remotely cheaply. Custom design alone can cost upwards of a thousand euro, not to mention coding and vailidating
    manage the site myself
Are you looking for a CMS with integrated eCom solution or will they be seperate from each other?

This is not meant to be a negative post but you really do have to define the exact requirments of your website. Comment or PM for any more questions!

    hey there,

The website will be 6 pages

It will be selling 1 downloabable software

It will need a demo/video piece just for demonstration purposes

The softwares target market will be outside of Ireland and so wondering if .com or .ie is better to reach this market

I will need the ability to employ SEO techniques and get advice on how to do so and be able to monitor the traffic that comes to the site

Just really looking for best value for money out there? and recommendations?

To keep costs down and some links for food for thought perhaps you should give Magento community edition a look http://magentocommerce.com/

There are templates etc available, but its resource requirement is quite high and would need someone competent to use it.

Of course then there are paid carts such as http://www.shopify.com/ which is a hosted solution that will charge a small amount per order. I dont know whether you can have downloadable products here tho.

    Something to review!

    Edit:

I think there are third party software that allow downloadable products

I'd be thinking more along the lines of a Joomla platform with Virtue-mart (like this) or Wordpress with a cart plug in; and hosted payment page for payment security to keep costs low. You definately don't need a full e-commerce platform for 5/6 pages.

Demo Video hosting is simple, you can either host it on your own server easily or your probably better using Youtube / Google video for SEO Value.
