you don't need a card to get the free channels but you won't be able to use recording facilities. You could try getting a UK freesat from sky card but not sure if they allow you record?

Ok, So how do I get the free channels. Do I have to tune them in manually?

No need to tune it in manually. Just connect the box to your TV and connect a satellite feed to first connection at the back of the box and away you go.

edit - It's not a sky plus box but that makes no difference with respect to viewing the free-sat channels. There is only one satellite feed at the back of the box to connect to.

    That's not a Sky+ box.
