Time and cost to change a timing belt on a 2000 a4?

    Timing belt is due a change @ 80k. ive never had to get one done before and know there expensive.

    roughly how many hours work is involved? its the 1.6se petrol

    a bit strapped for cash so need to save for it :pac:

    From my knowledge at 80k miles, that timing belt is way over-due. It should be changed at 50-60k. You should change it immediately.

    lucky car is still running to be honest,front bumper has to come off to do the job,assuming its a similar set up to 1.9tdi version,would recommend timing belt kit inc tensioner and while your at it do the water pump and put in fresh coolant approx cost €350 -450,thats without any short cuts.It sounds like it was done at some stage before though,cant imagine it lasted 80k or ten yrs no belt would last that long,check previous records or look for a mark on the timing belt top cover most mechanics mark the mileage and date there when changing a belt
