    Outlook

Scattered outbreaks of rain moving southwards across the country on FRIDAY NIGHT will give only small amounts of rainfall, with some places staying completely dry - and will die out altogether overnight as clearer skies follow from the north. Winds will be mainly northwesterly. Ground frost may develop in some sheltered areas, but even if so, is unlikely to occur widely. SATURDAY will be a generally dry day, with sunny spells everywhere and just perhaps a few isolated showers. Temperatures will reach 10 to 13 C in the moderate to fresh northwest to west wind. It will turn cold after dark, with a sharp ground frost in places as the winds ease off. Temperatures will fall to 0 C or a bit below in some spots. The outlook for SUNDAY and MONDAY is very uncertain in detail, but the overall trend is for unsettled weather. A complex Atlantic weather will pass close to or right over the country and will bring rain at times to most or all areas. Falls of more than 20 mm are likely in places, and some windy spells are likely also. The temperature forecast is uncertain, but the possibility of noticeably colder weather (and of snowfall on mountains) can't be ruled out.

Would be nice to see some snow on the mountains at this time of the year.

It is going to turn much colder next week. And snow is a real possibility.

Away from all the will it/won't it snow debates, there is certainly a risk of some prolonged rainfall in places over the next couple of days (and as rightly called by Iancar29) Latest models have much of Munster, Leinster, East Ulster and possibly parts of East Connacht receiving a healthy amount of rain within this period. Light to moderate for the most part with some heavier bursts at times. Add in a cool and sustained NE, backing N breeze to add to the delight.

Latest HIRLAM has a tightening gradient developing over Ulster and NE Leinster with the possibility of some heavy and persistent rain/sleet/hill snow occurring as the occlusion pivots over the area on Tuesday night:

Of course, timing, positioning and intensity is subject to change in later runs but one to watch.
