UFC 111 Predictions

Hey guys

The event is in two days time so I though I'd throw up a predictions/picks thread. Had a look around and couldn't find one already in this forum. This is a very strong card coming up and to say the least I'm very excited.

Here are my picks -

GSP vs. Dan Hardy - GSP via decision
Mir vs. Carwin - Going out on a limb with Carwin for this one
Ben Saunders vs. Jake Ellenberger - Saunders
Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves - Alves
Jim Miller vs. Mark Bocek - Miller
Nate Diaz vs. Rory Markham - Diaz
Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Brown - Almeida

Probably gonna set up an accum. on these aswell. Fingers crossed

Nearly agree with you, but I think GSP will finish Hardy within 3 and I have Mir winning. We just don't know enough about Carwin apart from that he has heavy hands.

Wrestling = ? (I know he has a great amateur background but we haven't seen that translated into MMA yet, we just assume)
BJJ = ?
Striking technique (not just power) =?

Yeah I can see GSP finishing Hardy its just there is a possibilty Hardy outboxes GSP and GSP takes it to the ground and grinds it out.

Completely agree about Carwin, I just think because he is naturally big and very strong he could be very dominant on the ground, in saying that Mir said he wants to stand with him so anything could happen. I also would rather see Carwin-Lesnar than a rubber match with Mir.

The only way i can see Hardy pulling this off is by a very early KO, On Paddy Power at the moment it's 12/1 on a First Round Hardy win, with a punch like Hardy's that's very very good odds.

I don't like GSP and i think Hardy's a prick so i can't win either way

i know peole are saying that he has a good punch, but really who anyways at the top tier has he fought, nearly everyone has been second tier or lower opponent.

1 ko from his last 4 fights, all of which have been in the ufc against middle of the road opponents and he only has the 1 KO and only 4 and 1 tapout stoppages in his last 10 fights.

i think the prime times and hardy have been biggin up his power so much, we are starting to belive it. Though its only takes the right punch to KO someone so ya never know! :P

Gsp has come through agaist better strikers already.

I think the 4/6 offered by Paddy Power on a Frank Mir win is the best bet I have seen in a long long time. I personally don't rate Carwin that highly, sure Gonzaga had him in big trouble. Mir is excellent on the feet now, and if it hits the ground, it will be over in seconds.
I am always willing to adjust my view, and who knows what will happen with his power, I just dont see it.
GSP by domination and I actually have a sneaky for Saunders v Fitch. I think Saunders is a real up and comer, as is Miller who should win easy.
Looks like an exciting card.

You summed up my feeelings exactly mate, I think the 4/6 is too high and will personally have a few quid on Mir. Also think Saunders has a chance especially seeing his last fight or two but my head is saying fitch.

I also think Matt Brown has a good chance and this is a tough one to call but the head is saying Almeida

The Sherdog guys might be onto something with Mir-Carwin believe the fight will most likely end two ways either the ending of the 1st Brock-Mir or the 2nd one.

Almeida - Brown is probably the closest fight on the card in my mind, i'd steer clear.

Really suprised how so many feel Mir is a dead cert, I think Carwin has the experience to expect the attempted takedowns from Mir and will wait to land a big one to the chin and I dont think Mir can take it if it connects, for Carwin he needs to get in early and hit Mir hard, longer the fight goes on the more in Mirs favour it goes.
