    Hey,
Anybody ever do this? thinking it might be handy for the folks if I could get them this. If I got one of the skype phones can you enable your home phone number on it as well so when you get an incoming call that phone rings as well??

    Thanks for any info!

AFAIK Skype phones only work when your PC is on so to have a continuous phone service your pc must be switched on 24/7. That will run up your ESB over a year. Skype is a good supplement to a normal land line phone but I can't see it as an alternative.

Why not try Blueface. They've a good offer going at the moment - free calls for life (of the phone). When you sign up they give you a non-geographiv number (076 prefix). You keep your current number but think you have to sig up to a call package (min €10 a month). I use the prepay option and think its great.

    Hey,

Thanks for the response. 69, I think you can get cordless Skype phones which dont require the PC to be on, They connect to your WiFi network.

Looking into Blueface at the moment, thanks for the tip!

I'm looking at this area at the moment. I want to ditch the land line completely.

Skype don't seem to sell a "gadget" that sits between my existing phones and my Gateway Router.

This seems a very serious weakness in their business model.

What alternatives exist that I can plug into my Ethernet, or with WiFi connectivity that will hook into my phones?

Would this work with Skype? I understood that Skype firmware or protocals would have to live on the "box".
