External Insulation on end of terrace.

I'm a bit of an idiot with regard to construction, but hear that external insulation is a way of insulating without the internal destruction. I have a 2 year old and we have no way of vacating the house when dry-lining is being done, and this would entail taking offs the rads, replacing window boards and such.

Was thinking about externally insulating side and rear of end of terrace house, which is an ice box.

Wanted to call someone out to get a price but would help to understand:

    (1) Does the pebble dash render currently on the exterior walls need to be hacked off? Some job in itself.
    (2) What would you do at the window ledges? Surely you can't pull out a stone/concrete window ledge and replace? Do you put an aluminium or pvc piece? (Would that last in the long term?)
    (3) Can't do the front as it's red brick and wouldn't want the place looking like the duckworths. So the side wall will obtrude. What do you do there? A PVC or aluminium trim, or do you just render it?
    (4) Toilet soil pipe - can't pull that out - just render up to it? I imagine a disastrous finish.

I want a warm house, but the job needs to look right, and last.
Has anyone done this on an end of terrace?

Comments welcomed, any recommedantions, PM me.

    Thanks
