My 2 year old dish looks rusty . Really bad looking.

Can I repaint it to match the white dash on the wall?

Would Halfords be the place to go?

    any white paint will do.
Only metalic paint will affect performance

Uhm, best not use wall emulsion either, unless your aim is to accelerate corrosion.

I've used a soft sheen Hammerite Smooth on mine, worked wonders.

neighbour of mine asked me could he paint his dish and i told him what the boardies on here said. i recommended hammerite matt black for him. funny thing was he was talking to a "sky installer" the following week and he told him he should never paint his dish as sky recommended it be replaced and that painting it would damage it...... I laughed and asked him did the nice sky agent offer to install a brand new one for him for a special price!

Dishes should not be painted with a brush, but sprayed, as the brush strokes will effect the signal level when it rains.
As the profile of the antenna will change, and the signal is directed in different directions, instead of the L.N.B.
This is more prone to solid antenna's.

    Regards,

well the guy who painted his dish(not sprayed) has had no signal problems since. i know spraying is the preferred option.... but if you paint it correctly surely it wont make that much of a difference? I should say his antenna was the mesh sky one and not solid.

I painted mine using a brush. A solid Sky dish (yes, there were a few about for a short period under Triax brand). Hammerite smooth I found to be rather thin and runny (it took 3 coats of white to cover the black), making it less liable to streak.

Of course, as ISAA said, it's best sprayed, but brushing will still work if done properly, with a decent brush (none of those cheap brushes where's it's near impossible to lay off streak lines).

Do most dishes rust so soon? Or do you live near the sea?

Also if you just leave the rusty heap on the side of the house and you are not worried about the appearance will that affect the sgnal quality?

i live in kildare. land locked. It was never painted correctly in the factory. scrap.

I was considering the comments about brush and spray.
I dont think it matters a bit.

the paint that if still on it, is peeling of to reveal thick rust. If the signal works fine on that, i dont think brush strokes matter.

I got white matt enamel paint in an spray in halfords.
