I was reading and listening to the 6.01 News yesterday about the Suspended Sentence was handed down to Ann Burke from Ballybrittan was foundguilty of the manslaughter of her husband Patrick Burke in August 2007, by reason of deminished responsibility.

The Central Criminal Court heard that Anne Burke hit her husband 23 timeson the head with a hammer.

There was medical evidence from both prosecution and the defence that she was suffering from a major depressive illness at the time.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy that the illness and her domestic circumstances could excuse or condone what had happened. He also said it was unlawful for people to take the law into their own hands, no matter how difficult life was..

Justice McCarthy said however, it was signnificant that the couples four children were at one in saying that they did not want their mother to go to jail.

Afterwords, Patrick's Burke's brother, Tom said he and his two sisters were very disappointed with the sentence and what they said was a further assassination of their brothers character.

Would you like to offer your opinion of this so called Justice?

    It was manslaughter, not murder.
