gets hit pretty hard by traffic at rush hour.

I personnally wouldn't put a huge amount of faith in it

its a poor service due to traffic and the route. Consider cycling or walking.

Sure its only 25/30min walk. I do it everyday and I normally get there a lot quicker than the bus.

The 18 is not a great route for reliability, especially if only going a short distance. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting at the stop for 40 minutes knowing you could have walked the distance in half the time.

The problem with the 18 is that is crosses almost every main road on the Southside of the city. It has no priority at traffic lights, very few bus lanes, and gets trapped in a lot of traffic.

It's easily the most unreliable bus I've ever used. If you're getting it from rathmines you may as well not have a timetable, its entirely pot luck. Its fairly good going the other way though as its starts in sandymount

Know someone who used to get it from Donnybrook to Kimmage daily. As long as you accept that some days you might have to get a taxi, it's ok and quicker than going into town and back out again.
