Kids on buses playing music on their mobiles

What is it with this? Is this a new thing or what?

I haven't used buses in years. Last week and today I was on a bus, both times there was at least one school aged child playing music - without headphones - on his / her mobile, loud enough for all on the bus to hear.

Call me old fashioned, but in my day we had a walkman (with tapes!) and headphones. What's changed?

What I thought was even more amazing, the other people on the bus seemed not to care at all and didn't bat an eyelid. One child was even accompanied by his mother and she seemed happy enough for her son to be blaring his music.

Where's the respect for the other people, who just want a peaceful journey? Or am I just behind the times, is this now "the norm"?

Just turned up the volume on my own headphones.

Yeah, we get this over here too & it's frankly annoying. But ask someone to turn it down & you get abuse shouted at you, or worse

There's nothing old fashioned about a bit of manners. I love it in Japan, they have trains there where you're not allowed have mobile phone conversations...

This has been happening years. Started with ring tones and now it's full songs on their phones. Drives me crazy!!

I think people are too scared nowadays to say anything to kids cause they're now so cheeky. Yes most of it is just mouthing off but it's still something I wouldn't want to draw on myself - especially on a bus..

Did you say anything if it was annoying you??

I like to think that one day it will drive me so mad I will turn around to them pulling my hair shouting "LAA LAA LAA LAA LAAAAAA!!!" at the top of my voice out of tune and with crazy eyes in hope that will make them go away without saying something rude to me. Surely they'll think I'm too crazy?? That is however wishful thinking!

apparently herself was number one for a few months with that umbrella song before i heard of her. i love my mp3 player. with earphones.

Saw the video for the first time over the weekend and straight away was insulted and went on a pure feminist-type rant etc only to realise by the end of the song I was bopping my head along to it.. DAMB YOU RHIANNA!!!

Something I've always noticed is people phones ringing with a custom ring tone, it keeps ringing, keeps ringing and then they pick it up because they didn't realise it was their phone ringing.

How many other people do you know have the Starship Troopers theme song as their ring tone?

1) the speakers are good

and

2) the tune is good

however, most of the phones have speakers that wouldn't sound out of place in an old bontempi organ and the tunes are crap.

i agree...nothing wrong with a bit of freedom...anyway music playing on bus isnt as bad as a couple of women talking beside ya...would take the music anyway over a pair of people shouting about their convo around d whole bus

hmm one phone has brilliant speakers 5800 2 bad i changed to N97 and speakers are rubbish and the loudness on the earphones has gone down 2 QQ

Just get a louder phone with some death metal and blow the little sh1ts out of it!
It's not just kids though, the ladies seem to be doing it a lot when out for walks etc. My quiet lunchtime walks seem to me more and more interrupted by Paulo fckin Nutini every day.

I was babbysitting a nephew of mine a few months back & was playing some old tapes on the stereo - he's 9 years old & is always banging out tunes on his iPod, but for the life of him, couldn't get his head around how music could be played off a tape.

its very annoying alright, usually ill just turn my headphones up. a few times ive ''asked'' them to turn it off. i find the more angry/crazy you seem the more it works.polite asking doesnt get you anywhere.other people on the bus usually support you, when they hear you doing it.

dont be afraid of the little ****s, theyre kids trying to act the hard man in front of their mates, stand up to them and most of them quieten down pretty fast.

As a regular public transport commuter that really twists my tits.
Why is it that those with the worst taste in music are generally the ones most inclined to share it with the world?

I have once or twice asked people to turn it off, you just get ignored. So I've developed a nice little passive aggressive strategy to deal with the situation.
Now I’ve no particular fondness for classical music but I do keep one MP3 on my phone, an aria from Puccini's La Boheme, and if anybody beside, in front or behind me starts up with that nonsense I don't say a word I just drown them out. If they turn it up so do I and if they turn it off I will too. 9 times out of 10 it works, because you know how much your average skobie loves a bit of Puccini
