I'm glad you said that you're flying out. I went into this thread thinking that it was started by someone who would be gagging for any pub on Good Friday and was going to go out to the airport just for a few scoops!

If it was a normal Friday would you be checking in 'very very very' early?

What are people mad to go to the pub just because they can't? Makes no sense to me, much like the actualt pub closures themselves btw.

    I use to think thusly.

But lately ive put 2+2 together; its just another form of protest at religious establishment.

To say you plan to be drinking in the wee hours of the morning on good friday means either a) Its cider and youre on a cure b) youre an alcoholic or c) youre flipping off the pope.

...or just saying "stuff you" to a government interfering once again in a persons personal habits!
    - If one also feels that way.

(Won't be bothered myself - gave up the stuff years ago)

I am flying out, but if it's confirmed might get the cheapest Ryanair one I can find for next year!!!

I know what uz mean bout Good Friday, it's mad! Holy Thursday is the off licenses busiest day of the year, it's like the country is about to go into prohibition. Good Friday is also the day of the year for the best gaf sessions.

Anyway, on a serious note is anybody 100% certain that it's open? Or will we just get cans on Thursday and go on the knack in the car park til our flight is checking in?:p

People are mad because the Catholic Church decided that no-one can drink on Good Friday. I'm an atheist. If I want to buy a drink in a pub/off license, why can't I? I don't drink that much, the church/state have no right to say I can't buy this particular product, which is legal, on a certain day. I also disagree with the banning of selling alcohol after 10/half 10.

What's next, ban Mars Bars on Easter Sunday? It's a stupid, outdated law. You're not supposed to eat meat on Good Friday too, ban selling meat too?

I agree, its a freedom thing - not a health issue. Its ok/good today but not ok/bad the next day - then the day after that... "hey, its ok again!"

    Daftness!

I was heading on the train up north last year COULDNT get into the bar at connolly.

Walked up to eason's up the road to get a book/ paper for train journey. met 8 emglish lads on a stag party walking around looking phased and upset

They asked was there a pub open explained the whole Good Friday Business to them they were in shock.

Being the nice ambassador for Ireland that I am brought them back down to the station sent them to the machine to get a Dart ticket and got them in the pub

They be happy when I left!

Of course it's open. It's owned by Donie Cassidy and chums.
Their ilk are above the law.

I think airports are considered to be outside the state tbh. I'm prepared to be proved wrong though.

You can get booze on Good Friday if you are travelling by sea, air or ferry.

In addition, people can be sold pints while attending a licensed theatre, the National Concert Hall or a national cultural institution, as defined in the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997.

Those attending a race meeting or a greyhound trial can be supplied with alcohol, as can those staying in licensed premises, such as a hotel, as long as it is with a meal.

It can also be sold in a military canteen and a club can be provided with authorisation to sell alcohol for six hours on Good Friday.

I know that it is ridiculous that they are closed, and I don't dispute that. However, people that say they will do silly things like take a train journey, or book a cheap flight (not the OP as I know he is going somewhere anyhow) just to go have a drink is a bit OTT.

    Ban all religion anyhow IMO.

I'm pretty sure that once you go through security, the bars will be serving alcohol. Same as in a train station, as long as you have a train ticket to travel that day, they'll serve you alcohol. My friends went to Hueston Station last Good Friday, bought the cheapest train ticket they could get and just went on the beer in the station bar.

You don't have to be eating a meal in a hotel to get served, as long as you're a resident they'll serve you alcohol.
