    Hi all,

I've recently left my job in Big 4 auditing where I worked for the last 2 years and 5 months, and am looking for a complete career change away from accountancy.

So I'm wondering how useful are career guidance counsillors? How accurate are all these various tests they do? Is it a worthwhile investment or is it just a money making scam?

I've been recommended this particular career guidance counsillor http://www.candeguidance.com/

The problem is that the process is 350 euro! Thats a lot of money!

Does anybody have any experience with this particular guidance counsillor?

    Thanks

It depends what you want out of career guidance...remember 80% of careers suite 80% of people... it only 20% of careers that require a real apatite for them...

as for the tests they are accurate at what they tell you....and what may suit you out of a long list of careers...they are good at telling you if you would be good at working on your own or with people that sort of things

do some of the online tests first and see how you get on...look at careers-portal....

look at the reasons you don't think you suit your present career..write them down...

i think some people have somewhat unrealistic expectations of what careers guidance can do for them...its good for people who are focused and looking for direction... its not good for people who expect someone to reach in and find hidden talents in you... or who are looking for someone else to find the answer for them

What about speaking to the guidance counsellor at your local vec office - it seems to be a free service that most vec's offer... I've had experience with Wicklow Adult Guidance Service (www.wags.ie) and found them excellent - didn't go through testing etc, didn't particularly feel the need to, but in my case I found talking through options & getting an outside perspective helped me sort the wood from the trees.... but dealing with someone in your local area will have relevant knowledge on how you can begin to make changes without necessarily needing to skip the country etc!

Might be a starting point :-)
