Just seen this event and thought I would let the boards know. I know there is a lot of users that want longer distances and more challenges. What about this for a race. I would love to give this a go anyone on here entered or entering?

    Overview

Covering just over 300km the 26 Extreme Coast to Coast will take part over two days on Saturday 17th / Sunday 18th July 2010. All teams will be REQUIRED to have their own support crew who will transport bikes, clothing and gear between transition areas. We will look after the transportation of all paddling equipment and you will only be required to transport your paddling kit if you opt to bring your own kayak, buoyancy aid and paddle.

    Can I do it?
This event is tough. Don’t let that put you off though, with plenty of training and the correct preparation you can do it. It is a race and there will be cut off points to ensure no one gets left in the dark during each day. Your road cycling should be strong, your running and paddling up to speed and your mind should be void of demons!

    Route Details and Distances

Everyone in the 26 Extreme Coast to Coast will follow the same route over the two days. No one will have a greater sense of achievement than others and at the finish party everyone will be able to tell tall tales of their journey well into the early hours.

The day one breakdown of distances and disciplines will be as follows:
    Beach Run – 2.5km
    Road Cycle – 107km
    Paddle – 26.5km
    Road Cycle – 17km
Day one total distance – 152km

The day two breakdown of distances and disciplines will be as follows:
    Road Cycle – 122km
    Off Road Run – 32km
Day two total distance – 155km

The paddle distance is the only thing that would bother me. Is it the two mans?

Depends which class you enter, solos can use any kayak, pairs can use 2 singles or a two person boat, far as I know the rental kayaks will be 2 person sit-on-tops which will be waiting for you at the start of the kayak section and taken from you at the end of the kayak section. Seems like a good idea to me if you doing it as a pair, means you won't have any hassle loading and unloading a kayak onto the roof of your van or car.

I would want to enter it as a solo. Causeway have you got a streamline Kayak with go faster stripes?

Is the paddling on a canal or lake?

MRegan - lots of time to get the training in. Solo is the way to go!

Zuppy - Paddling is on Canal - There are a few sections of open water along the route though. Shannon Erne Waterway - from Ballinamore to Ballyconnell

£50 a day is a very cheap race. Hmm time to make up my mind. Will let you know soon.

    I'll be signing up shortly.

Looks like great craic, although I am a bit worried about the kayak stage.
The mountain run should be interesting after all the previous stages
