Hi guys. Just got a pack of 5 mag ak 74 mid-caps and to my dismay they do not engage properly with my kalash 74. Wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make them work (sanding etc)?
    Cheers

Common issue with the kalash line, you will need to remove a small amount of material from the top of the magazine catch on the aeg, go easy take a little off and then try a magazine keep doing this until you get a good fit

Another alternative is to file down the catch-tab on the mags themselves. I did this as I didn't want to modify my old Kalash at the time. Now that I've got a Cyma on the way I'm not sure if the modded mags will still fit... :(

Thanks for the replies guys. Might try to file the mags a bit. Wreaking a few mags is a lot less terrifing than wreaking my ak. :)

That's tbh why I always recommend people to mod the catch as if you mod the mags they will always be loss with possible feeding issues in othere aegs

Yeah. Plus, I think you can buy replacement mag catches on Ebairsoft.

If they don't fit I'll just sell them to a mate who has a Kalash and try and get some new ones. Either that or use some sort of epoxy to bulk up the catch-tab again.

I've done it both ways myself and even when trimming down the mag it made no difference to how it fed in other AKs, I'd probably prefer to do it that way to be honest,

Personaly can not stand the mag flopping around in the mag well, but both methods work so down to personal preferance

Kalash are the only AK to do this, so filling the mag catch brings them in line with other brands, its what I did, and you can tune your mag catch to an extent to hold the mag very solidly.

I prefer the idea of making a proprietary mag catch standardised than to make custom magazines to suit it.

How would one go about filing the mag catch? Would you have to disassemble the gun and then file it down, reassembling it every so often to see if it the mags now fit?

The mag catch does seem to be the more permanent solution, but just a bit daunting.

Thanks again for the advice. :)

the catch is only held in with a pin and a spring behind it, you wont have to do any dismantling really. You can file it with the catch still in place though.

As above, also put some electrical tape in place to protect the paint on parts you aren't filing, AK's look good worn, but random hacks here and there look stoopit.
