Freesat claims million customers

    Recession telly?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/24/freesat-millionth-customer
"We are watching [the pay-TV review] with great interest as we are very interested in offering pay TV services," she said. "The review is an opportunity for all TV platforms in the UK to offer undbundled sports and movies. It is also an opportunity for BSkyB in the process, this could be another market for their channels."

Freesat also claims it has the edge on Freeview, which as a digital terrestrial TV service does not have the high definition TV capability for as many channels or UK-wide coverage.

The satellite operator claims that 200,000 fewer households had Freeview as their only source of digital TV at the end of last year, compared with the end of September. This equates to 2% of the digital terrestrial television service's customer base, putting it at 9.7 million households getting digital TV via Freeview at the end of 2009. BSkyB put on 172,000 customers in the same period to move to 9.7 million subscribers in the UK.

Freesat will also be launching the ITV Player this summer and a full ITV HD channel from 2 April.

So Freesat to become Paysat bit by bit?

Freesat will explode in the next few months I predict as the world cup nears with the availability of free HD for all games.

Well done pauld. You will never regret it. You made a good choise by choosing satellite.ie as well. Had a look at his (Tony's) prices online and i must say they are very well priced. I see too he can now arrange nationwide installation. Nice one!!. Even if you choose a self install his delivery charge at Eur5.99 is very reasonable.

I particularly liked they way the boards.ie discount was automatically given when you click the link on any of tony's posts.

Well done Tony!! Credit where credit is due..

I along with Mike at freesat.ie and a few others I'm sure lowered the price of freesat recently when we got a better deal from our wholesaler, unfortunately though I still think we are paying over the odds beacuse of supply volumes being low and the wholesalers consequently being in a strong position. Freesat also being a UK product means a lot of wholesalers will not sell here at all

Yes i was approcaed by a specialist installation company who have been excellent so far so it streamlines the whole process and makes it cheaper to administer, Mike at freesat uses the same guys also

Its actually below cost which is 7 euro for next day for DPD but I figured it was worth taking the hit to generate business especially when you are competing with so called "free delivery" (if anyone knows a delivery company that works for nothing would love to hear about it :) )

As its a flat rate fee though buying something small like a satfinder on its own is probably not great value when shipping is added

Thats great to hear, its a new feature in the site software that i've been working on and it seems to work well. There is also now a rating system where you can review a product as people like to read what others thought good or bad and shows us where we can do better

Tony, tomorrow it is so!! although, I wont be buying the tv till next week as I am on a weekend away, (I bought the cart before the horse, so to speak).

Givecredit - you have lived up to your name!! and thanks for affirming my purchase.

Just wondering if Tony could get his installer to quote me the following. Currently have a sky dish with a quad lnb mounted on a chimney (I know - lazy installer 7 years ago) on a standard 2 storey semi d with flat roof one storey extension at back (Gives easy access to the roof). I am currently using 3 of the 4 lines?. I would like to make use of the fourth and run a line into a front bedroom and make use of soon to be spare current tv and fta box.

Paul I'll email you as specific commercial interaction is quite rightly not allowed here.

I know ITV HD will move onto the Freesat EPG next month which will up the amount of HD content for the World cup, but is it conceivable that BBC will upgrade to HD for some of their red button sports interactive content for the world cup ?

Would it cost BBC a lot of money to go from SD to HD for more channels or are there technical barriers as well such as satellite capacity ?

Capacity on Astra 2d is the problem

Thats excellent, fair play! Might get my Humax sooner rather than later! :)

Just an FYI, the coupon link only appears when not logged in...once I logged in it was no longer visible. I guess boards remove ads from members??

    Hope this helps

Fair play once again! That attitude alone will win you business, plus people have to put a price on all the advice you give on here!.....not to mention, your're an Irish company AND probably have a better after sales policy than amazon should technical issues arise!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,341 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Thanks for the kind words. To be fair to amazon their after sales policy seems pretty good although they sell such a wide range of product its hard for them to give specialist advice as an Irish specialist retailer would.
