Think the hard drive in my dell laptop is broke. Was dropped on floor, cant read anything from it, sounds like it clicking when it trys. How much is a new hard drive for a laptop? Is it easy enough to do yourself or would I be best leaving it into a shop?

Also looking at getting a new laptop if its too costly as DID Electric are doing a deal when you get UPC installed in your house. Are Celeron Processors any use. I remeber when buying my current laptop two years ago I was advised to stay clear. Have they improved?

    Thanks

A new hard drive is cheap enough 60/70 for a 320GB one, and on most dells it's an easy install. So it's probably best to just buy a new hard drive.
As for celerons, they are generally as bad as it gets as far as laptop processors go, although it'd be nice if we had details. The processor to get is the core i3, which can be found in laptops around the 499 range.

You can get laptop hard drives from €45 online. It's quite easy to install if you know what you are doing. There's usually just a panel underneath that you remove and unscrew a few screws. You will obviously have to reinstall windows on the new drive and all your files will be lost. If you put your busted drive into a pc as a secondary drive, you may be able to save some or all of your files depending on how fecked it is (it might be ok if not used as a booting drive, maybe!)

May be a silly question but are all laptop hard drives standard. Looked on Dell website and they are 90-100 euro. Would I be able to install everything again for the recovery part of a different laptop then. I have access to another Dell laptop with a section set aside for recovery. Could I install everything from that or would I need a windows disk? Dell dont supply disks with laptops, just the recovery section on HD
