    Hi all,

What would be the best all round hunting cartridge for all game birds, from pigeon to geese?
    I'm using at present, Fiocchi PL32 12/67/12 32g (2 5/8" - 1 1/8oz) but am finding different success on different birds.

Is there such a Cartridge out there?

    Thanks for the help.

There is no such thing. You quote the cartridge size your gun is chambered for but not the shot size or choke that you are using. I think as a rough guide you need a shot size that will give three pellets (min) with sufficient energy on the target to give a clean kill. To ensure a kill on pidgeon at fourty yards you would need to use a shot size that would not have enough energy for goose, conversely a goose load at fourty yards would give a pattern that a pidgeon would probably fly through. My shotgun has the same chambering as yours and I use no4 shot for duck or hare and no6 for everything else. I do not use it on goose as I would like a heavier load and more choke. Similiar type of conversation with my dad when I was 16.

dad what should I use for pheasant ans--4
dad what should I use for pigeon ans 4
dad what should I use for rabbit ans 4
dad what should I use for duck ans 4

make sure you let it well out...

My Father liked to keep things simple......

he had a double barrel hammer gun with 34 inch barrells.

i use 32g 6 for all bird shooting

I use remington 34g 5's for all game.
    Great cartridge.

If I go into cover I put a 7 or 6 in for the closer shots.

If after duck & they're a bit of distance I go for 34g 4s (remingtons also)

:D:D That's a real Cavan lesson. Can add also
"Dad, what should I use for crows?" ans "Hunger" ;)
    Seriously though,
patterning and choke also are important.
    My choice:
    For duck No 4
    For pheasant 6
    For snipe/woodcock 9
    P.
