    I am considering purchasing a sim-free iPhone from http://www.fonezonline.ie
Has anyone had any previous experience with this site or feel it may be bogus?
The only offered methods of payment are cheque in the post or bank wire. Is the bank wire a safe method of payment?

    Opinions are appreciated.

A bank transfer is generally trackable, but if you don't know who you are giving the money to is it really safe?

Interesting that they have no address and rely on mobile phones.

    Hi

It sems you can also use Paypal to pay.

this is also good as the person you are buying from gets no details about you and if there are any problems, you have use the Paypal system to get your money back.

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

They say they no longer use Paypal or Google Checkout but will let me pay through Realex.

Be careful with fonezonline.ie. Have a look - No landline number, have no address, use dodgy terms and conditions of sale.

A reputable seller will have proper contact details, terms and conditions etc.

It appears that fonezonline.ie have mobile phone numbers for contact, no physical address and most likely unlawful T&C's so watch out...

While normally I would agree with you, do a search on the Moblile/PDA forum. They have been present on Boards.ie and other users have reported no problems when using the company.

    They also use fonzeonline.com.

Thinking of it, but its a lot of money, good price though.

For what its worth I purchased a LG360 from them before Christmas and more recently a HTC Desire which just arrived today. Had a few problems with the LG which I sent back, not their fault, just a crappy phone. Spoke to them on the phone as well as via email which they responded to quickly.

LG took a while to arrive but that was over Christmas, the HTC took 5 days not including the weekend.

I think it is just a very small operation to keep costs down.

I ordered a HTC desire from them last week. Before I ordered they replied to my emails really quickly and out of hours. I've tried to contact them by email and phone since then because the phone still hasn't shipped but can't get a reply. Stay away.

You can but the 3GS simfree direct from Apple for pretty much the same price.

for what it's worth, i bought an ipad off them two weeks ago. arrived a few days later than initially indicated but apart from that i didn't have any complaints...

An update: I've since chatted with one of the guys a few times. Seems really sound and genuine. Think the two of them are probably absolutely swamped. Will post another update when the phone arrives. Apologies guys and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the replies. I think its clear from the responses that the website is reputable.

    Hi An Sionnach,

Did you get your HTC Desire from fonezonline, yet, hows it going for you

Will post when it arrives. I wouldn't say it's end of story yet: took a couple of weeks to ship and they don't reply to emails. Have spoken with them a couple of times. Did not get an automated email with a tracking number when it shipped, just a manual one. Have been emailing about getting a tracking number but haven't heard a peep. I am on the other side of the world but it's been twenty days since I placed the order...

Desires seem to be pretty scarce, think HTC are having trouble keeping up with demand.

Still that's no excuse for these guys to ignore your emails.

I didn't order it online I aranged to meet and pay cash. The ipad I wanted wasn't in stock and it took a week and a bit to get it into stock, delivered down to one of the lads and then for him to meet with me. It would of been quicker to order online but I wanted to pay cash. Was kept up to date through out the process, sound fellas

You bought an iPad from from a website but arranged to meet someone and pay cash? Did you hand it over to a man in an overcoat in an underground car park?

This site couldn't get any dodgier, and it's not helped by dubious new users dropping in to give the thumbs up, either.

How could the seller meeting the user be dodgy? I would class this as a good seller as I would prefer to meet and see my purchase before paying for it

Cash deal questions the likelyhood of this "company" being VAT registered and therefore being held to commercial and legal standards.

Personally I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

Look you can buy online either. I bought from them and I'm happy, you didn't and are just jumping to conclusions. It's nice to have the option to meet and pay cash since they are an Irish company and are legit

I think at this stage they have been proven to be fine to deal with, numberous people from boards have dealt with them and no issues.

well the positive "experiences" are from members that just signed up !
