Any final grand theories before all is revealed?

Well it'll all soon be over and the terabytes of theories will be consigned to history.
So before all is revealed does anyone care to submit their best guess as to what it’s all been about?

Here is mine. Feel free to tear it to shreds but it’s the best I can come up with. And I know Cuse and Lindelof have said it won't be a snow globe ending but I humbly suggest that this theory is not quite that.

The island is a holodeck. An artificial construct created by Jacob and/or MIB for reasons as yet unknown. Possibly as an entertainment or perhaps something more worthy. Think of everything we've seen: Time travel. Shape shifting smoke monsters. Inexplicable disembodied whispers. Visions of dead people. The Hurley bird. Creepy cabins that move around the island. The supply drop from nowhere. The hatch imploding but not killing anyone. Jughead detonating but again no fatalities. People teleporting from Ajira 316 to the island. In other words things which simply cannot be. And if they cannot be then the most logical explanation for them is that they are not. They are artificial.
I don't think the oceanic six ever even left the "island" or Sawyer and co ever travelled back to 1977. This three year period all took place within the false paradigm as well.
This then presents the final question as how many of the characters are real and how many are creations of the system? My guess is that only the people now referred to as candidates are actually real and everyone else around them is part of this artificial reality.
Ps: F**k knows where the flash-sideways fit into this ;)

Aw it's kind of sad that there'll be no more mental theories :(

They should make it so that its the new Star Trek, all the losties are the crew, who just spend way too much time on the holodeck :P

Not really a theory, but more like an abstract idea for continuity.

LOST may not end at Season 6.

My reasons are this: We can assume that by the end of Season 6 a new 'Jacob' will be found and he/she will remain guardian of the island to prevent evil (MiB) from escaping.

Which means, if the creators of the show Lindelof/Cuse wanted to begin another season they would only have to retain the actor/actress who becomes the new 'Jacob'. Then another disaster happens which transports one hundred people to the island and the cycle starts again.

Will probably never happen, but it is possible! :D

Jack wakes up on the plane back from oz after having the most amazing dream of his life..
Orders a Jameson on the rocks and lands safely in LAX...

My Tv will be soon after taking a spill through my window if that happens!!

I rather like the insane theory whereby MiB/smoke monster escapes the island and becomes the monster in Cloverfield.

Ridiculous, but it would be awesome.

Perhaps they are going to tee up whatever it is, not explain it 100% and leave the questions to go on forever via Lostpedia..........

A black screen and an old rock classic which will serve as the flagship tune for a teenybopper series of unimaginable awfulness.

I think it'll end with Jack and Flocke sitting on the beach staring out to sea, looking at an airplane in the distance, replaying the "it always ends the same" conversation... sky turns purple... dramatic cut to the LOST logo.
Or most of the plot remains a mystery, everyone just ends up in the alt timeline, and there's lots of slow motion walking, hugging and smiling with soppy music.
If it's either of these I will be disappointed... but I wouldn't put it past these dirty birdies. :pac:

They're not going to answer everything, we know that, but I think they'll leave a big slice of the pie unanswered and end on a cliffhanger. That'll lead to calls for a movie/another series etc from the legions of fans and keep the interest in Lost as high as ever, for a while at least. It's a big money spinner, the studio would be mad to let it die....

I would love if the entire final episode was Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse filmed on a ****ty camcorder sitting on a sofa with an A4 pad of bullet points each. The next hour they, in a matter of fact manner, explain every single mystery and even have a chalkboard to explain some of the more confusing time travel/island location logic. In the last section Darlton discuss some of the more incredibly well-thoughtout theories regarding the island and announce they will now answer the biggest mystery of the show - what is the island and why are the characters there? The writers then fail to follow-up on their next statement and quickly reveal what we all thought from episode one - they were in purgatory! Show then cuts to recorded footage of the entire cast in Hawaii pointing and laughing at the audience for wasting their time :D

Thats exactly what I expect to happen too.

Never thought that they would be watching another plane coming to the island, but thats probably what will happen.

I think it will end with the ghost of Rodney Dangerfield appearing and then all of a sudden there's a big party happening on the beach, out of nowhere ("Where'd all this alcohol come from?") and everything will be hunky dory, queue cheesey 80s music and the credits play.

    Prove me wrong Darlton.

theyre going to pitch the whole thing as some sort of fan driven experience rather than the scriptwriters telling their own story. this entire season has been pandering to every major fan theory put about since the show started. they basically got the fans to write the last season for them

The new sneak peek seems to reveal what we all feared:mad:

This is just a theory on the reason for the flash sideways stories:

The island is apperently a cork containing "evil" or whatever. Well in 1977(can't remember the exact year), in the flash sideways story, the island (cork) has been destroyed by an atomic bomb. Well does that not mean then that the evil has been set loose upon the world and we are seeing the effects of this through the main characters.

Now TBH I don't see how evil released upon the world makes sawyer and miles cops or causes any of the characters to do what they are currently doing.

Any thoughts on this or does my brain need to be corked!!

because they changed the past and that affects more than just whether the island is there or not

its called the butterfly effect, a term which has its origins in an old ray bradbury story where the character kills a butterfly in the past and this changes the future quite dramatically

Yeah, it does seem like the cork has "popped" in the sideways universe. There are two ways of looking this: 1) the cork popped and the evil was released, or 2) the evil was destroyed and the cork isn't needed anymore.

I seriously doubt they will, but they could do a Planet of the Apes style ending where they were in LA all along but they time-traveled too far ahead or something|:)

I reckon we're going to see some sort of build-up / showdown in the flash sideways and this will be in the hospital. Think about it: Sun is shot, Claire's having a baby, Jack will be there, Kate and Sawyer were in a car-crash.

I also like the idea that some of the candidates could get thrown back in time and stranded there. Maybe Claire was Flocke's mother sent back in time??

With time travel taken into consideration maybe some of the losties came into contact with Jacob & MIB when they were a lot younger.

I think it'll be a Holy Grail ending....all warring factions storm the beach for the big final battle only for the rozzers to turn up and nick them all for being "silly".....then a nice musical outro.....maybe by Eric Idle.

I have a feeling that Arron and Walt still have a role to play. Both appear to be special. Arron was the only child born on the island. He is connected to the Shepards i.e. Christian, Jack and Clarie. He may be the "second coming" so to speak. The one to replace Jacob. I have always thought that the name "Shepard" may have a deep symbolic and literal meaning. They could be the literal shepards of the island and/or the force of good.

The statue on the island represents the god of fertility which highlights the importance of fertility on the island. Therefore the birth of Arron on the island underscores his importance to the island.

For Walts part it appears that he had special abilties before he came to the island. He also appeared to locke towards the end of the last season.

How both could be interwoven back into the story I dont know.

I also reckon that jacob and MiB are brothers.

My theory is the Man in Black gets off the island and joins the flash sideways gang, thats how they join the island life with the the flash sideways. Locke regains his body on the island and takes over from Jacob, this is the way Jacob always had it planned because Locke could see into the heart of the island.

Ok, I've been re-watching Lost (on season 3 now)... and this is all starting to make sense.

They will use the diamonds that Nicky and Paolo brought to the island to defeat Flocke. Miles already said he found 'em and dug them up... so I think the other group (Miles/Ben/Richard) are going to find the magical light cave thing and charge the diamonds with lightey magic in a highly concentrated form.
When they place these charged diamonds on the correct positions around the dial of the lighthouse (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42), Desmond will have to do this because there will be electro-magnetism happening for some reason.
The smoke monster will be sucked into Ben's magic box, the alt-timeline losties will all meet and remember everything and the realities will merge.
Desmond will say "Ah love yoo Peeeeneh" at least once during the finale.

Just getting this down on paper like. :pac:
