Golfbag and Ryanair

this could be in the wrong section and asked many times before, sorry for both.(searching takes way too long on my phone)

Hi all,
can anybody fill me in on weight restrictions for golf bag with Ryanair please?

I have been told its 20kg by some people and 15kg by others. Can some one who has actually traveled with them in the past few months and brought their clubs with them confirm for me

15kg is the restriction for your normal checked baggage (suitcase).
Sports equipment is an additional 20kg per item.

Article in yeterdays Indo Sports section on Paul McGinley, who is setting up a Club hire service at a number of airports, basically you'll pick the clubs of your choice, for €35, you can collect them at the airport and have them for 1 week, then drop back to the airport on your return. Bit like a car rental

a bit of competition might get the airlines to reduce their charges. At €35 per week is over 50% cheaper than the airlines.

Nothing new, there are plenty of golf club hire places abroad. Algarve Golf Club Hire is one of them that springs to mind, last time I used them it was e35 for 4 days, dropped them off at quinta south on arrival and collected them at the lobby of the hotel when we left, choice of 4 sets of clubs think I got taylormades to try them out brand new in bag

how much is it with ryanair? Ill be in spain for 2 weeks in august.. if he's up and running by then is 35x2, 70euro still cheaper than ryanair?

I think Ryanair and Aer Lingus are both now €40 each way to take clubs. It's pretty ridiculous.

Somebody on here mentioned recently that a way of avoiding the 20kg golf bag limit is to check it in and then between leaving the check-in desk to dropping it off at oversize luggage, stuff extra stuff in your bag.

I'll let someone else try it first though...;)

Was in lanzarote last year and was flying back with Ryanair, One of the lads was over the 20kg allowance for his suitcase:eek: . He was quoted a crazy fig for the extra weight from the lovely smiley girl behind the desk! Faced with the prospect of paying more for his baggage than he did for the flight he had the bright idea of taking as much as he could and stuffing it into his golf bag:D......... and it worked.

See you pay a fixed rate for sports equipment (golf clubs) not the weight. The girl behind the desk could do nothing but watch .

News to me ! and if thts the case I am going to weigh my fully loaded bag to see how much it is:D.

Also it must be a new thing cause there is no way tht guys bag was less than 20kg

Golf Bag Limit is 15 kilos with Aer Lingus as got done recently!!

My stand bag, clubs, one ball and one glove, handful of tees weighs 10 kg !!!!!!!!!!! ( and cover bag which weighs quite a bit )

20 kg is more than enough, 15kg leaves nothing spare but is perfectly manageable. Remember you are paying to get your clubs there, not your clubs plus a suitcase of extras stuffed in around them.

I bring a largish trolley bag, 14 clubs, dozen balls, pair of shoes, a pocket ful of tees, gloves etc. Including my decent padded outer bag, the total comes to 14kg. If going with Ryanair, I will use some of the spare space to bring some clothes, waterproofs etc, but I dont chance it with Aer Lingus.

This is Paul McGinley's (associated with him!) website. I am going to the Algarve in September and although I usually bring my own it will be an excuse to try the R9 irons.... I have the R9 460 driver and I love it!! It will also be a lot cheaper and less hassle than bringing my own.

i usually use away trips to try out new clubs
afaik there is a store opening in dublin airport as well, maybe it has already

Im heading to Algarve in sept & was planning on bringing my own clubs.
20kg is the limit. Id rent but they have none of my clubs & would rather pay to bring my own.

Where ever I can afford haha. Still havent booked the hotel yet so not sure what area im going to. We're renting a car though so can travel for golf.

Want to recommend me some courses? I guess 80e is the most Id spend on a round (is that too little for algarve?)

Depends on what end of the Algarve you are going to.... If you go east of Faro (towards Spain) they are cheaper than those "better" named courses around Albufeira etc.... I can recommend Quinta da Ria - near Cabanas, Quinta do Vale - on Spanish border (Seve design-long!!), Castro Marim - beside Quinta do Vale, or if you want a nice gentle, short(ish) course try Benamor in Conceicao - 30 mins from Faro. They average out at about €55 each.

that is true
faro to marbella is under a 4hr drive
depends how long ur going and whether you plan to spend your time east or west of faro

if you decide to go east tom, pm me as i've got good local knowledge of course from gibraltar to malaga
