    Hi there

I have paperwork to get signed for a marriage abroad and need to get the completed paperwork signed in the consulate section of the passport office in Cork. The paperwork (according to their own guidelines) has to be completed within 4 months of the wedding which means for a July wedding it has to be completed this month.....due to industrial action I have been unsuccessful ringing and my emails have gone unanswered....basically I feel if there is a 40k backlog with passports there is no point in posting it down...I was thinking of driving down next monday but our local postman said that the office is only open in the mornings now with the ind. action....anyone know the opening hours for definite?????? are there queue's down there like the ones in Dublin?....would really appreciate any help here...thanks

I have just gone through all that wedding abroad forms process .... but to be fair it was at the start of Feb - before the strikes really ramped up.

At the time, the opening hours were something like 9.30 - 12 and 2.30-4.

You go into the Passport office, but walk straight past all the waiting chairs and the counters towards a small corridor (its to the left of the passport counter windows - there is a small sign saying 'Consular Services' I think), and at the end of the corridor there is one window on its own there on the right, you ring the bell for service. I arrived at 2.30 on a friday afternoon and I was the only one there ... rang the bell and someone came out straight away. Its completely separate to the Passport windows and queues.

The woman looked through all the forms to make sure they were filled out right, that I had everything and then I paid her and got a receipt. Then 2 weeks ago we got our birth certs back with a covering letter saying they had sent everything off too the relevant embassy.

Now, how this will be affected with the work to rule, I can't tell you, but it would be worth bringing the forms yourself alright rather than trusting them to get to the right people now by post.

    Good luck!!!

I was in the consular office in Cork yesterday and there is absolutely no problem. I'd left things a bit late and they even did a rush job for me and kept me up to date with all the faxes flying between here and portugal by phoning me each time this morning. I have to say, I was really impressed with the professionalism, speed and flexibility of the people working there.

Thanks to you both for replies...Karmella, I was glad to hear birth certs came back etc...

Hunny monster...if you got forms done recently am I to understand that the current industrial action has no affect on the consulate service???? I had heard the office hours were halved as part of the action i.e. mornings only...what time were u there?...I am hoping to take a half day this coming Friday to travel down.....do u just walk in requesting consulate offices or join the main queue??? thanks in advance

it was about 3pm, definately after lunch. I think the pm hours were 230 - 4:30 but I stand to be corrected on that. the consular office is at the back. walk in the door, turn right (the queue for passports will be on your right) and go down a short corridor. It's well signposted.
Alternatively, if you want to post the documents to me, I'm happy to go in with them for you to save you having to take a day off?

    Incy Wincy

Just seen your post and I am in the same situation.

Can you tell me does the Cork office only deal with persons living in Munster,I live in Galway.

Did you get your paperwork sorted out?

got sorted this afternoon...very helpful staff, including security!! walked in to see about 15 people sitting queueing for passports so headed down a corridor to consulate office and had the whole lot done in a few mins, paid by laser and was gone.....very efficient. I am not sure whether they can process applications from Galway....if you contact your local Births, deaths and Marriages office within the HSE they will tell you which passport office to go to i.e. Cork or Dublin.

Thanks for replies, offers and advice.
