Scared to move jobs

Im in my current job 4+ years now. Its stable, pays ok and has a friendly atmosphere. Trouble is I can now do it with my eyes closed. Its so totally boring.
Also, as i have learned just about everything I can there, i have nothing new to add to my resume.

I want to move into a related, but slightly different field. I have talked to a few recruiters, and gotten decent feedback on my resume.

There is one problem though, I'm petrified of leaving my stable, comfortable job and moving to a new job that could be potentially much worse, that may not hire me passed the probationary period, or that just might not click with me.

Problem stems from when I started working first a few years ago, and got bullied quite severly by a manager, so much so that I had to take 6 months off work and go through a lot of CBT to get back on track. Due to this I am not happy leaving my comfort zone.

I know i should not winge, as to have any job in these trying times is a blessing, but its a job that i am bored with, and has limited promotional prospects so I dont want to stagnate.

How do you advise i deal with this?

Would the thought of jumping ship then not getting made permanent in a new job stress you out?

Does the potential of long term unemployed if a new job doesnt work out make you feel better or worse then your current situation?

No harm in looking around and seeing what is available but be mindful that as things current stand i wouldnt be hopeful.

How about doing some sort of education or training to improve your prospects.Maybe see if you current employer will pay for it ;)

Thanks for the response. I am currently looking. had the exact same thoughts as yourself but its only when interviews started comming in that I realized that it is a terrifying prospect.

Yes, I really find comfort in being in a permanent, stable job. I will have to weigh up if that comfort is worth more to me than being bored.

I currently am upskilling in my free time and that does keep me interested, to an extent. Thanks for the advice.
