Hey, wondering if anyone can solve this:

I want to buy an american reality tv series (that occasionally is shown on TG4). It isn't sold, as far as I know, in Ireland (and I know of no shop that orders DVDs). See a couple of people in the US that will sell it...

    but...

    region lock. Specifically on PS3.

Irish PS3s can't play US DVDs, can they?

    Anyone have any ideas? :confused::confused:

Buy a multi-region DVD player or see if you can pick it up on VHS anywhere.

Irish PS3s cannot play region 1 dvds
You'll need a region free DVD player or program for your pc.

There are a lot more forums to boards than just after hours by the way...

Can't quite see how DVD region coding is in any way "bizarre" too...

As Mr. Anono said, just buy a MultiRegion player.

You can get one in any good electronics store (Power City, DID) etc.

If you have a PC - you can hijink it so that you can stream it from your PC to your PS3.

With the right software this will work for you. Just think how you put movies on the ipod etc.

Don't want to give too much away or be called out for suggesting something illegal.

You're also allowed to change the region of your pcs DVD drive a few times (I forget how many)
So if you never watch dvds on your pc, you could always change the drive to region 1, then back to region 2 if you ever need it...

    6 times I think,but 3 times to 2 then 1

Yup - then it gets locked.
Hypothetically I know a guy who knows a guy who talked to a fella who uses an application to enable his pc to be multi-region.

    Thanks for the replies.

I was hoping Action Replay or something like that would remove region lock on PS3 (I think that something like that existed for PS2, but almost certainly looks illegal now - for no apparently rational reason )

But I think that I will get the DVDs, change region of laptop, hook laptop up to TV, watch the DVDs more or less in one go, then sell (or more likely) throw them away and switch the region back to 2. :pac:

tman's right about the show :o

    Loved that show,:D

Was thinking along the same lines as you.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the region on the PS3. Surly if we can create an american account and get all there PSN content and there version of home we could easily change the region. No ?

Its not possible, no working hack or useful mod has been released for the PS3 since its release over 3 yrs ago.

Probably since PS3 games aren't region coded
