    Hi,

Noticed last night that there is a faint image of the epg visible behind all satellite channels. It seems to come through more when channel picture is blue or green or greyish. I can read the words "Sky Guide" and the time and date.

I have sky hd and am using a sony bravia that is less than 2 years old.

Has anyone else noticed this with the HD box? or am i looking at a TV problem.

    Any help much appreciated, Thanks

Whenever I have on Sky Sports News for a time (maybe 10 or 20 mins) and I turn the channel you can still see the images of the football tables on the screen.

The problem is they burn into your screen or something but it's defo a TV problem. It shouldnt happen by right.

Aye, screen burn, more commonly found with Plasma TV's I've noticed.
It's why a lot of dvd players recorders etc will have a bouncing image or logo as their start up screen to avoid this.

its already been mentioned here but is your tv a plasma or an LCD? is your tvv still covered under any kind of warranty that you could return it? its only two years old, surely they would agree that it would be supposed to have a longer life span! when i was buying a HD tv last year this was one of the main reasons i went for LCD over plasma, plus the fact that my laptop was easier to look at on an LCD than a plasma, and wouldnt use four times the electricity either.

Cheap or lower end plasma models will give the burn in effect ,

It should still go away after changing channel within a few minutes , if not I would suggest a Tv service or if in warranty go knocking on that shop door !

Usually you will see this on Sky Sports or Sky news where they have that solid colored bar at the bottom of the screen , although there is some scrolling text the bar is always there and tends to burn the image in.

You will see this in a lot of pubs that bought cheap plasma screens.

No, no, this is completely wrong ALL Plasma screens suffer from 'Image Burn' or 'Screen Retention' , it is in the nature of the way they work.

Now, several years later, all of the leading manufacturers of plasma TVs – Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Pioneer, and Hitachi – have all taken several steps to greatly reduce or eliminate completely any signs of image retention.

This article refers to " Permanent image retention" which manufacturers
have all taken several steps to greatly reduce or eliminate completely

And in your referenced article it states that
while image retention can occur in modern plasmas, the effect is temporary.

This is exactly what I said previously, ALL plasma's suffer from Image Retention. BUT it should not be permanent, if it is then the OP does indeed have a problem.

My point was this image retention lasts a lot longer on cheaper sets , I have two panasonic sets and I can leave either of them on SSN for the day and the image burn in is gone within minutes , its hardly even noticeable after a few seconds after I change the channel or when an add break comes on.

Ok, fair enough, it came across as if high end sets are immune to it, which they aren't.

Just a tip for people who find they do suffer from it if you switch to a channel with white noise like a non existent analogue channel this will clear it up much quicker than any other image.
