Camiño de Santiago: anybody walked it?

I haven't a word of Galician but I'm thinking more seriously now about walking the Camino Francés of the Camiño de Santiago, leaving Ireland on Sunday 30 May. At present I am thinking of starting at St Jean Pied de Port in southwestern France next to the Pyrennes and Spain. This is the conventional start of the Camino Francés. It ends in Santiago de Compostela, and is about 780km. It apparently should take six weeks to complete.

Has anybody here done it yet? Any advice about it, or are there better routes to walk?

    Thanks.

[Mods: Could you leave this in AfterHours rather than Christianity as I'm doing it for more spiritual than Christian reasons. Thanks]

You could just do 780 laps of O'Connell St in Dublin at 1KM per lap. much cheaper and just as spiritual.

Ha!! hahahaha!!!! Spirituality in AH! Lovely!

Seriously, though, been in that part of the world (St Jean de Luz) - asolutely breathtaking scenery. Worth going even if you don´t do the trek.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Just listen to Christy Moore singing "Bright blue rose" on repeat while you do it.

I walked part of it, approx 240km. Absolutely great craic...did it in just over a week.

Make sure you have good hiking boots that are well broken in. Get up early as walking after midday is tough going wth the sun beating down on you. Try and ring ahead to the hostels well in advance to book your room/ben in dorm. Pack very lightly, you won't wear half the stuff you think you will. Bring lots of Compeed blister plasters, you'll need them. :)
