I've done a search and am only finding info in relation to houses, and I know often planning regs/exemptions are relaxed for agriculture.

So, we have a field with a gate in it on a narrow road. the gate is right in the ditch, we want to put in a wider gate, set it back from the road and put up an angled entrance. The reasons being to make it easier to drive in and out of the field, or when checking livestock you be able to pull in without blocking the road.

The picture hopefully paints a thousand words.

This goes on all the time, do people just not bother with planning, or is it actually not needed in this situation.

Construction of a splayed entrance requires planning permission. There have been instances where the grass verge was sufficiently wide as not to require a splay just to open an entrance or widen one and I've seen the council give the ok by letter only for agricultural purposes. But strictly speaking there is not any exemption for entrances.
